Can having better keywords on the page help improve cpc?

Maybe, but IMO the single most dynamic move you can make to improve CPC is to get your pages into the products Marketing companies sell to Advertisers, driving up the bids as well as increasing coverage.
I wonder if using better keywords in an ad channel would also help. I haven't been able to prove it myself.

For lot of people, better paying keywords, doesn't mean keywords which are earning you more, but keywords with higher bidder advertisers. This is why there are so many financial related sites, as well as health, insurance, etc... But it doesn't meant it will really earn you more.
Now if better keywords means improving the content of the pages, with better quality content, that is another point. And a good one.
