Adsense - refer a friend Rewards

I have received an email from Adsense outlining a scheme whereby when you refer a friend to them Adsense will reward you - in money.

The benefits are quite high, 50% of their earnings in the first 30 days.

What surprised me was that they are running this scheme at all. Although I have nothing conclusive, my overall impression was that Adsense was moving away from small publishers, but clearly this is not the case.

Odd indeed. Also, considering how hard this is not to be approved.

Now, this doesn't sound risky for Adsense, because if a publisher doesn't yet have an account at Adsense, there are very few chances it can generate significant earnings during the first 30 days :). A publisher with enough traffic to make money, will obviously already have an Adsense account.

But I bet some will abuse this, and create new accounts, under different names, and refer themselves :)
