In my experience however, it does nothing to improve the rankings of the page. But then may my videos are too amateur.

If I understand correctly, you want to embed a video in an article and include AdSense code on that same article?

If so, I can tell you we have hundreds of articles with video embeds (custom, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) + AdSense code running on those pages, and we've never had any problem whatsoever.

If I may ask, why did you think that might've be a problem in the first place?

OP's concern may be about copyright. Obviously you can't plant someone else's Youtube video on one of your pages and surround it with Adsense ads. So long as the page contains original content, there should be no problem using an embedded Youtube (bearing in mind that the video may also be monetised).

I have several pages that contain embedded Youtube clips. Never had a problem or a complaint, other than the Youtube publisher closing their channel, deleting videos, changing video status to non-embeddable, etc.

Ditto what others said. I've never had a problem with embedding Youtube videos.

So make sure you have verified rights to use the video, preferably in writing to defend against any report.

If the page contains a sufficient amount of your own original content, I don't see how there can be any infringement. You're monetising your own content and providing the Youtube publisher with eyeballs to monetise theirs (bearing in mind that embedded videos still carry Youtube ads).

You cannot use the property of others without their consent - period.

It doesn't matter if you have been getting away with it undetected or not, it's still copyright infringement and may have significant consequences *if* the owner files an infringement complaint... which could happen if they see profits being made.

Google is swift to act. They don't give much wiggle room when it comes to DMCA complaints.There are warnings at Youtube against using copyrighted works without consent.

I think that's wrong, quite frankly. We are discussing embedded videos, not uploaded videos. Those who upload to Youtube most hold the rights to this content; that is not in dispute. They upload it in the knowledge that their content will be shared and distributed. They have the option of disabling embedding, if they chose. There are no granular controls on who can embed Youtube videos or where they can be embedded. Others can share or embed Youtube videos without the explicit consent of the copyright holder.

Further, it would be ridiculous for Google to disable an Adsense account for embedding video content from Youtube, Google's own video sharing platform. Not unless the relevant page/site was otherwise devoid of original content, meaning the publisher was trying to monetise the video itself.

A WP blog that embedded an NFL video. A DMCA complaint was filed and video had to be removed. Don't remember if Adsense was published on the WP page.

Not saying people don't get away with it, and most video owners probably don't care or even welcome the sharing.

But the video owner certainly has the right to have the video removed and there *could* be consequences.

Personally, I wouldn't chance loosing my Adsense account. I've read too many threads.

Just use videos that you own and the problem is solved :)

If the NFL video was uploaded to Youtube by the site owner then it almost certainly breached copyright. If it was uploaded by a third party then it may have breached copyright, and a DMCA claim against the original uploader would be more appropriate. If it was uploaded on an official NFL channel, then embedded, then the DCMA claim was nonsense. Embedding is sharing, not hosting.

The phrase "get away with it" implies that embedding third-party Youtube is an illegal or unethical practice. I think that is just conjecture, given that there is no authoritative advice to the contrary. Google's T&Cs, though admittedly not crystal clear, suggests that embedding on an Adsense page is fine, provided the video is supporting original content instead of replacing it. The consensus on Google forums is similar.

I really think it's about intent and ratio. Take copyright seriously if you are in for long term business.

OP's way of doing things of embedding original copy right holder's uploads is probably OK, as it's a supplement of his original content.

However it's probably not OK to reupload a video from famous matches, as you are essentially claiming copy right of that. I am not a lawyer, but there's always gray area about republishing someone else's work, rehashed or not. The original holders, Google, or adsense can always go after you if they feel like it.

With that said, it's probably not OK if just make a site 100% of youtube uploads and call it, all the youtuber's football training guide. Without actually putting additional work into it. It could be editorial comments, detailed strategies, but the ratio should contain your own original stuff.

But at the end, adsense has crazy judgments against sites from time to time. I would follow all directions even if they are crazy.

After all, our sites are probably too small for the big copy right holders to go after. The profit will probably only cover less than 1 hour of their lawyer's fees. If anything, a generic take down request is probably what will happen.

Yes, if they do that then the clip is no longer viewable on your site. The user will get a message saying that the uploader has disabled embedding and will have to click through to Youtube. And the site owner will be none the wiser about this.

Yes, that's the point. The video owner can have their video removed from your site.

In that case, the video was uploaded to YouTube by someone without the owner's (the NFL) knowledge. At some point they filed a takedown request (DMCA) and the video was removed from all locations.

Ah. Well no sympathy in that case. Pro sporting leagues are notoriously aggressive about DMCA claims. They have to be, I guess, given how much they make from coverage deals.

Common sense applies, as it always does. I wouldn't embed sports footage, a music video or movie on my sites unless I was certain the uploader owned the rights. If you can embed a video from the NFL official channel then I expect that would be fine. Embedding an NFL video uploaded by JoeBlow69 with four subscribers may be a different story.
