Almost as surprising as that thread when I asked everyone to reveal their age. I couldn't believe how many of you people are old geezers, some born way back before 1990.

I wonder if I should try that thread again? (I bet more people live in a home with indoor plumbing now)

I missed the age thread. I myself am 57 and have been doing this since 1998 after managing a company with hundreds of employees. I have to say that I do not miss having employees.

I wouldn't let anyone else ever touch my work; then it wouldn't be mine. That's not to say I don't learn from others and emulate ideas, but every keystroke is mine.

I manage my own sites through an ageing CMS doing mainly content and administer new sign ups etc, I use a freelancer now and then for creating listings as the sites are directory sites.

All on my oddy knocky.

I am doing all by myself. I rent an unmanaged dedicated server. I wrote my own CMS from scratch in PHP. My site is a community, so I write some of the topics, and members are posting their own thoughts too.

I missed the age thread.

That settles it, I'm going to start an age thread right now.

Do all of it myself (design/programming, server admin, content creation). Wife helps some with content.

I think this is cool when you can create/work something with your wife/husband. Mine has no real interest in Internet things, but she has plenty of other qualities :)

Solo web creating since '93, full time since '94, can't actually remember when however it was well before Win95 was introduced.

agree with keyplyr, and that's exactly how i am for adsense - and i've been in the programme since month 1 of the launch!

i sell stuff online too and all the web stuff is all me, code, content etc etc. but i do employ a couple of people in the b&m setup ... we don't have a shop but do shows and stuff where i have staff, also i have help with packaging and shipping (when things are good)

No one will ever care about something as much as you do - so I prefer to keep all of my work in-house (no out-sourcing).

I'm a one man band as well.

Yes, for 10 years. Before that, 27 years in management at media companies, most of it running online operations. Started with dialup modems and bulletin boards.

I love the freedom now. Tried using contractors and thought hard about hiring people, but 27 years of dealing with a lot of BS was enough.

Ontopic: I've created my website about 5 years ago and doing about 95% by myself. Only difficult stuff is something others will do for me.

It started with 50 to 100 euros a month. Every year it improved and now it's about 2,000 a month. Never expected this when I started but it sounds strange but I'm more proud of every euro I earn by myself than every 10 euro I earn at my boss.

She writes fantasy books. So every evening, she tells our daughter and I, a piece of her story, and then we makes nice dreams :) but I'll stop the off-topic :)

It's just been me for many years. Not too long ago added a contract writer and graphics guy. Everything else is just me. I make a good living and have the opportunity to travel as my wife's schedule permits. Nice to be able to work from pretty much anywhere in the world where I have a decent internet connection. The negative part is that I basically work at least an hour or two every single day. Well worth the trade offs!

One man show.
Established some evergreen sites, updated maybe once a year.
Created some UGC sites and respond only to support requests.
Cashing cheques/checks (smaller everyday).
Wandering and doing nothing.

A bit tired of this (and money has been short) but been procrastinating a new way of living... once you go the easy way you don't want to go back, so, you sabotage yourself - you just don't want the hassles, even if that means more money.

Started in 2002 with my first project and my first website.I was very enthousiast about it.Forum as part of the website was very popular.Not sure when i heard and then signed for Afsense...Probably in 2003 or 2004.But i did not give a lot attention for the.first 2 years.Earnings were a very low and i did not take it very seriosly as part of earnings money.Later i got ideas about new project, learned by own SERP promotion mistakes by a couple promising websites and the last 4-5 years Adsense has replace my full time job.

Secret is to got good idea about project/website, combine marketing experience and code during period of Building website and build quality website.Build, build and build and rebuild if it is needed same project by not making same mistakes.Only through building more quality websites you can expect to earn more money from AS and not to stay on one place (with one or two websites for years) and complaining about low earning.

All i do it by myself except writer who make correction to my own text or very rarely write whole article in English.

I am working on my own these days, which is at it was when I started out all those years ago.

Until about 18 months ago I employed two content creators on a part-time basis. But with revenue sliding I had to let them go. Fortunately they had jobs and travel lined up anyway, so it created no strain for them. It hasn't created much strain for me either, except that I'm publishing less content than I used to.

I also had a dev that handles curly tech problems. But I haven't had to call him for six months.

Me, myself and I. In a competitive niche, I'm not sure that flying solo is an advantage.

I absolutely do everything myself for three reasons.

1. I want to learn everything I can and know my business inside out.
2. When I started out I couldn't afford to hire.
3. I just don't trust anyone to do it my standards.

I've been running solo since 2004. I'm pushing 69 and have no intention of slowing down. I love what I do and, to me, it's a hobby that pays a salary.

Wrote my first website in the early 90's. (Netscape and Notepad) I was working for a very large multi-national in the UK and it was an intranet site for our Wan group.

Built my own first flat HTML site in 2004 which is still doing nicely and now updated to a responsive CMS; as are all my sites.

I'm solo also. And I'm 74 years old. I do it because it's more like a hobby for me. I've been working with computers since 1974 at an airline.

Reading about so many people doing it alone makes me think it's time to have another thread to prepare everyone for what can happen when a health experience like mine of just a few years ago ....

... or just preparing for other things we know could happen any day (if you're human) without the necessary preparations.
