How do you make these chronic scrollers click?

Hi Guys,

Been gone for a while. Finally got a new site up and making about $50 (that took 4 years). Nothing like my old site but it is growing.

My desktop only index/landing page is doing well.

My main index and site is html 5 and phone friendly. I have an outside source of flexible traffic.

I have tried some putting some phone users in the mix but only got crud response.

Any Ideas? Or thread that already exists?

Welcome back!

Mobile clicks is one of the challenges we've all faced. Accidental clicks, and actually getting clicks are pretty hot topics in general. Google has made a number of changes to reduce an accidental click from counting for the advertiser and publisher. But getting users to click is tougher on mobile than is was on desktop, for sure.

We have had some discussion on this, and here are a few that may help?

Thanks man, good to see you too!

Just what I was looking for, the available data. Or some visionary opinions?

Other than standing over them with a baseball bat and hitting them when they are hovering over the ad I thing it is a lost audience.

They are like baby chimps with a visual pacifier. The hand and visual cortex is functioning but the decision center of the mind is off in some netherworld.

The species is devolving.

Ad links Units are doing great on mobile devices. They feel more "natural" on a mobile phone.

Yes Peter I was thinking that also.

I have become more of a link unit guy lately. I'll try that out.

The peaking half of the ad real estate of the 250x300 at the fold on the phone seems to have credence.

Welome back, long time no hear.

I think mobile is more "picky" than desktop depending upon your genre.

Some sites report mobile as a boon, others not so much. Mine? Roughly proportional to traffic.

Obviously sites which cater to "where to eat", "where to buy tickets", "what's on now" should do quite well - whereas sites like "DIY brain surgery" not so well at all. The phone market sector must rely heavily upon "impulse" users.

We know different sites even within a well defined genre can have wildly differing results - irrespective of search results.

I suspect it might be even more pronounced in the phone user market.

I have been struggling to raise CTR on my responsive site for 2 years and never really made much headway I am using @media queries in the adsense code now to help the right responsive size to show up and this helped a little. My CTR was around 3% - 2 years ago and it just eroded to about .66% after applying media query sizes it went to about 1%(for responsive content text/images ads).

But recently started using googles responsive link ads and the CTR is greatly improved the CPC is not that great but the CTR makes up for it on a site that gets a lot of mobile traffic and desktop(which the CTR has remained the same!

Hi Ian,

It has been like forever bro! Your right, depends on your area of focus. I am doing the same old thing I did, free 3D art. Site not as big as the old one but I am going to expand this summer. Funny, most of my business is AU wit the US as a close second. 35M people do the same $$$ as 350M, weird!

Stompin & Peter - Went to ad links on the SE primary index that is html5/CSS. We'll see what happens
