I use a blended color strategy, where I use colors related to my theme and try to make my ads a part of the other content. But I know some people like to use complementary colors that stand out dramatically from the theme content.

Which method do you use and why?

Thanks!

For years I used colors related to my theme. I did it with CSS. Pages looked pretty, ads were not too intrusive looking. I liked it.

Then that stopped working when the default colors of blue started appearing for some odd reason. I started to notice those ads were making more money. I then switched to default colors and all adds started making more money. I liked it more.

I too started with a related theme color (reddish brown) and ended up switching over to a blue. Seems it was what people liked/like to click on as it was the browser standard link color in IE I think.

BTW - I still use custom border colors for textual ads, but default for text (black) & click color (blue.) That still works in Firefox & IE/Edge, but Chrome goes all default.

That's interesting. My best performing site has a monochromatic theme: gray, blue and black. Links are dark gray. So I've used black and shades of gray for adsense ads and it works great. Looks nice too because the post pictures and other ads add color to the gray. When I notice less clicks I substitute the default blue in for one of the grays. That tends to counter ad blindness and I get clicks again.
