My post count is nowhere near as high as most other members, but I have been here since 2006 so I didn't see any problem in starting this month's AdSense observation thread :-)

Not much to say about my start to July, absolutely dreadful

"I tried it for a while. Results were abysmal, compared to desktop performance."

Same experience as well. I avoid anchor sticky on all my properties. Basically avoid anything that sticks on a mobile screen. Mobile screen is small enough for users and adding anything that permanently takes away screen space is bad user experience (even if it can be clicked away is still a hassle). In my opinion.

If you think this July traffic is poorly converting for ads, try products.

Anyone running the bottom anchor sticky ad for google adsense? How does that work for you?

I tried it for 9 days and it was converting poorly, at an embarrassing $0.18 impression RPM.
My traffic is about 85% mobile, so I was expecting it would do decent. I kicked it right off.

July has been really weird so far, so maybe I'll try it again later to re-experiment. Although, I'd rather save my users the trouble.

A bit off topic, but I usually cross reference traffic stats between Adsense and Analytics. I noticed on Analytics I'm missing four hours of data for July 13th, from midnight to 4am. It collected nothing, as if I didn't have a single Analytics tag on the site (there are many). Then after 4am it collected data the rest of the way like normal. Anyone else see this issue or have this issue happen to them before?

Well, July is half gone and each day the payment is worse.
August will be "fun".

Looking at my earnings gives me eye problem cause it's a bad sight to see. Having thousands of organic unique visitors daily and thousands of page views daily but am not even making close to $1.

How is that possible?

How are you doing guys? In my 10 years with Adsense , I have never imagined my earning would reach this low. It's devastating. Big sigh.

Doing pretty well. (Desktop/laptop/tablet only--mobile performance has been abysmal whenever we've tried AdSense on mobile pages.)

Fabulously on tablet and up. As with others mobile is a disappointment.
Note: If I was getting 'normal' ads AdSense would be a disaster - such that I'd be seriously considering dropping it; fortunately some niche pharma companies love me. :)

As with others I've been testing FAN as a AdSense replacement for mobile visitors and it has been beating AdSense on desktop so I am extremely pleased.

@ember it is very much possible and that's what's happening to me. I guess it's because 90% of my visitors are mobile users 😢. I have a decent CPC $0.2 but my CTR is rubbish 0.1%

@ Halaspike

Has it always been this bad or this is the result of a long term trend downwards? Yours has to be a niche where people historically don't tend to click.

A forum?

Earnings are definitely down this month. Wondering if it's the summer vacation effect?

@Ebuzz

It hasn't always been this bad, it started around April this year and just kept becoming worse. My CTR when things were normal was around 2% to 2.5%.

I honestly don't know what happened that caused this sudden downfall.

My niche is information based, movie scripts / lyrics website.

2.5% to 0.1% drop in CTR - Have you checked your ad code? Are the ads appearing fine on all devices?

@magician

I've checked my ad code, everything is working fine and all ads show on both mobile and desktop perfectly. Sometimes I just feel like they don't want me to make money anymore.

2.5% ? Really?Maybe Google are penalizing you for sending them accidental clicks!

@Maximum44

I don't think so. I've always had my ads labelled "Advertisement" and with enough space away from content. My drop in CTR just happened all of a sudden.

@Halaspike I guess you lost arrow from the text ads, its happened to lots of us. I lost it long time ago and still didn't get it back.

@Chronos Slayer

I still got arrows on text ads. It's either adsense ain't counting all my clicks or they intentionally doing something am not aware of, like maybe they only register a click after every 5 clicks.

There doesn't seem to be any correlation between the Nessie arrows and the tumble in CTR. I've had the arrows and my CTR has dropped to about 40 per cent of last year. A shift in Google's criteria for valid clicks is more likely. The only thing I can suggest is a close review of your layout, with a view to reducing accidental clicks.

@trebuchet

I've always had my ads labelled "Advertisement" and with enough space away from content. My ad layout is as follows:
One ad after every second paragraph and one ad before the last two paragraphs.

I've already had over 2,500 page views today but with only two clicks. See how adsense is being unfair to me right.

It seems like when a publisher is doing everything right and not breaking any of their policies they take you for granted. This #*$! been getting me stressed out for the last 5 months fam.

My Adsense earning has decreased this month. The CTR is just the same but RPM has fallen from average 1.5 to 1.0
Most clicks are now paying only 1 or 2 cents. Traffic has increased but earning decreased.

I'm still seeing a few pages with high CTR rates, even after not serving Adsense to some countries that were causing issues (looking at you Russia and China).

Looking at July 1 to today, I have a 1.6% CTR. I have some low traffic pages with 2 digit CTR...and three pages with a 150% CTR. How the heck do you get over 100%? My site is a news site. Nothing nefarious, nothing deceptive in the design. I think I have ample space around the ads in both desktop and mobile (it's a responsive design.)

Is it kosher to post an url so you can have a look-see?

ianevans, no it's not kosher to post an url. I've seen images of screenshots however.

If it wasn't for my 300 x 600 unit located in the left column I would have hardly anything in the pot so far this month.

From this one unit placed on a few of my main articles I've had 39,102 page views, 38,597 impressions, 492 clicks, page RPM is £2.75, an impression RPM is £2.79 p.

I'm just over £100 mark with this one unit. The next unit is a 300 x 250 unit placed underneath the first post in my forum, so far this month that's made £7.77 p.
