The meteorological first day of summer for us in the northern hemisphere, let's hope that Google decides to brighten up our days!

@Red bar it wouldn't be the same without your posts complaining about your earnings :-) :-)

I think I may just beat last month's earnings. I've recently completely overhauled my AdSense and I'm finding that earnings are around about the same every day now. What I have discovered is that banner is located next to the logo do not get any attention whatsoever. However, my earnings appear to be around £4 a month just from impressions alone, no clicks at all. What I'm thinking about doing is putting in a responsive link unit in its place. This means I can then put a normal AdSense somewhere on the page.

I'm actually quite happy with the 300 x 250 embedded in the first paragraph of text, it looks good. I got a buddy of mine in Canada to do some screenshots of some of my pages to show me what he was seeing. I was pretty amazed to see that a lot of the ads were very much related to my niche. I think that Canada and USA have a lot more businesses who are in the business than here in the UK.

Media.net is quite good at the moment. Because of the UK coming out of the EU, the pound has dropped in value and therefore because media.net pay in dollars, my next payment is going to be a little bit more than they would have been if we hadn't voted out of the EU.

Page level adds seem to be doing okay-ish. Some days I can do 4 or £5 just from page level adds, yesterday was probably about £1.50 p. But I think if you are running a site where a lot of your traffic is from mobile, page level adds is pretty important and I would advise those people to implement it ASAP.

@Ironside ... My CTRs across many sites have simply collpased with some niche sites this month not having any clicks even though having thousands of PVs. Honestly I simply have not believed Google for a long time and their so-called click fraud detection, they are removing valid clicks, I know, I have tested it and watched them do it.

@red bar take one of your sites for instance, how many hits are you getting a day? If you're getting a few thousand then I just do not understand why you are not getting clicks. Could it be that every single AdSense unit has nothing to do with your niche? Having said that, a lot of AdSense unit displays search history of the user. Without going into too much detail, where have you put some of your main AdSense units? I don't want to start trying to dictate to you, or patronise you, but maybe you could try and put a 300 x 600 unit in a paragraph of text, either floated to the right sort of the left, it doesn't matter. Maybe try a 336 x 280, or 300 x 250 at the very end of the content directly in the middle of the page, or one paragraph from the bottom.

Units that I found don't work very well but seem to be recommended on the Internet are AdSense units that are placed in between the title and the first paragraph of text. I have tried both non-responsive and responsive units in this position several times and they get hardly any attention whatsoever. However, a 300 x 250 ad unit placed within the first paragraph of text and floated to the left does get quite a few clicks and I think mine are slowly earning a little bit more money each day. Some of my best performing ads either 300 x 600 ad units that I've already mentioned. I have some of them in within a paragraph of text, and some of them I have located in the right-hand column, just below the menu. In fact I think I've got one of them above the menu and that doesn't the too badly.

I've also got a few pages with quite a lot of external links. One of my pages is concentrated on fish food. Most of the links point to my affiliate eBay account. However, I've created a 200 x 90 link unit which fits in really well and these get a little bit of attention and a few pound as well. What doesn't work is any AdSense unit anywhere near the logo, not one single click this month. But like I said in a previous post, I've and money through just impressions alone. But I think that I'm still wasting money by leaving it here. I could possibly find a better spot within the content.

I'm getting more than a few thousand PVs per day however many of the ads I have seen are either totally irrelevant or the same ad repeated page after page in every ad position on the page.

Being one of my industry's major global producers I decided to contact some advertisers direct and ask them their current opinions with regards to the current effectiveness of AdWords, all of them said the same. Their actual spend had NOT gone up but also their enquiry rates from ads had gone down dramatically this year and they were confused themselves as to what was happening.

It would seem that their order rates were down by the same ratio that my publisher earnings have been. Look, I've gone from 1,000+ clicks a day to now geting 10 if I am lucky, literally a couple of months ago it was 30, prior to that 50-60, before that 90-100 etc.

Changing ad positions for me would be pointless, is it AdSense, is it ad blockers, is it buyers' changing attitudes? It's a combination of several circumstances however only one thing is certain, Google doesn't give a damn about small publishers.

Probably because Google is not trusting your traffic and is clawing back earnings after having some time to analyze how the traffic is converting for advertisers. They may think some of the clicks are artificial, fraudulent, accidental, etc. The estimated earnings are just that, an estimate. Nothing is final until the month ends.

The ability for these advertising systems to analyze interaction after click is consistently improving. Ie. Certain user behaviors are expected after the click for the ads to be correctly paid. In a nut shell, if too many percentage people immediately back out of the ads after hitting certain units, except that unit to get hit through smart pricing, after process reduction, the whole shebang. I believe this is most likely true regardless of the adsense platform including publisher owned sites or youtube.

In this sense, ads placement optimization becomes less and less effective once you go beyond the necessary exposure and content consumption cycle.

Ads near the top is very like to trigger accidental clicks and immediate return back to your content. Expect those units to get hit and become less relevant overtime. This for me is true for adsense. Ads near the top however is great at generating higher priced CPM based impressions however for RTB type of networks (which in term sometimes feeds back into adsense).

Ads are usually best priced at content where buying intent is highest and visitors are expected to "pause" from content consumption, this improves post-click interaction after directed to advertiser's landing pages.

Back to the usual observation:
I am seeing amazing RPM near the end of the quarter in the past couple of days ~+30% of average. I am expecting the RPM to tank again with coming July.

The day of the UK fiasco was my peak RPM, perhaps my audiences all look up stock tips that day about why the market tanked and personalized stock broker ads triggered on my sites and gave me awesome RPM's. Or maybe it was the release of certain summer movies...who knows, one can only guess why RPM rises and falls nowadays.

There is never much difference between my finalised earnings and my estimated earnings. I think the biggest gap there was for a long time was about £10 a few months ago.

@Red bar this month my average page views are around 3600 and my average impressions are around 11,000. The average earnings are listed as £6.68. How does that compare to yours?

Should've asked them how your traffic has converted over the years. Or offered them a good rate.
their enquiry rates from ads had gone down dramatically this year and they were confused themselves as to what was happening.

We're a good 6 months into the year; that's a long time to be confused. Maybe they should find out?

@ember here is my traffic stats from youtube : 75% of traffic is coming from suggested videos...12% from playlist...5,6 % browser futures...4% youtube search...Direct or unknown 1,3 %...external 1%...etc.I never click on my ads...i never suggest people to clicks on my ads couse i dont need it...i got 200 000 - 300 000 clicks on ads every month...so how you will explain that on january februaty and march are much bigger than the adsense...im worry a bit if it is invalid clicks...thats why i ask this question here.

I don't know much about Youtube, so the above percentages don't mean much to me. I'm not suggesting that you are clicking on your ads or asking others to do so. It just boils down to traffic quality. So if 4% of traffic is coming from YT seach, who are those people? Are they actively searching for your video or topic? Are they on mobile and accidentally clicking? You have to look at who they are and why they are clicking. Bottom line is if they convert for advertisers, then they are quality clicks. If they don't, then they aren't quality clicks, and Google won't charge the advertisers as much for them. Hence, estimated earnings are lower than finalized earnings.

Nothing condescending about it. When you invest, whether that's traffic or advertising dollars, you need to watch over your return, regardless of the size of your business. If something's not working, you try to fix it or, if it can't be fixed, you pull the plug and try the next thing. You don't sit on your hands bemoaning your fate and blaming someone else.

Had a stellar Friday and Saturday, Sunday was not super strong, but more than ok. Revenues are way up compared to last year! We have come a long way since early April!

All we done is to avoid accidental clicks, cleaning out bad content and focus on user experience. And it is working! Better than i thought to be honest. The CTR have not suffered too much. CPM could be better, especially on mobile.

Oh I dunno, Google-blaming and conspiracy theories are par for the course here. They're part of the colour of this particular forum. From my perspective though @robzilla is right. If things is broken then fix them. If you can't or won't fix them then move on.

Did I say their businesses were failing? No I did not.

Therefore small or family business that have been successfully trading for many years, and still are, when an advertising medium they have used to good effect in the past suddenly has an unexpected downturn, you expect them to start analysing immediately, when they are already busy, the reason for that downturn when everything comes out of a black box.

What I said was:

It would seem that their order rates were down by the same ratio that my publisher earnings have been.

I should have said: their order rates they could directly attribute to AdWords were down

My industry is not boxdroppers or has downloadable or easy-to-ship goods, it is mostly 90+% bespoke products.

How do you find out how much money you have made from YouTube videos? I'm always puzzled as to how people make money from YouTube Google AdSense. If I go to YouTube to watch a video are not going to click on any of the ads, in fact I find them incredibly annoying and get rid of them as quickly as I possibly can. I suppose the impression rate from those ads that you can't get rid of make quite a lot of money. Also, the ads that do come up before videos, the AdSense ones are another of any relevance whatsoever, in fact they normally show ads for Internet hosting companies.

Sunday was quite a good day for me. I had a load more page views that I've been getting for a little while. Clicks were up quite a bit. I think I'm going to leave my AdSense layout as it is, seems to be improving slightly as we go along.

Also, if I have been penalised by Google for having too many ads above the fold, you think that penalty would be taken away once I have removed the ads and only have one? It seems that the amount of hits I had yesterday was almost back to normal. I'll just have to check what happens today.

Did I say their businesses were failing? No I did not.

Neither did I. I was referring to their AdWords (and your AdSense) fate.

when an advertising medium they have used to good effect in the past suddenly has an unexpected downturn, you expect them to start analysing immediately, when they are already busy, the reason for that downturn when everything comes out of a black box.

I don't expect anything, but it would make sense, from a business perspective, to take action, either by fixing things or pulling the plug. They don't have to do it all themselves; as an advertiser, you can call Google for help, or hire a third party. For publishers, it's important to remember that you hired Google to sell your traffic to advertisers.

Adsense is trash, the more page views and impressions I get, the lower the CTR and overall revenue. Too bad I can't remove it from my site no matter how bad the earnings are. Sometimes I just feel like a Adsense slave.

How many of you UK folk have got media.net installed on your site? I made $177 last month which because of the low pound compared to the dollar translates to £134.

I suppose it depends on how much you are happy with and it comes to AdSense earnings. At the end of the day AdSense is free to use on your site so surely any money is good.

I've only just checked yesterday's stats and, remarkably, it was my best day of the month and actually pushed me over the minimum payout level and get this, my best couple of EPCs came from Iran.

I doubt Google is aware of this however for my industry Iran has the possibility to be one of the major global suppliers, I enjoy going there to do business:-)

I have tracked AdSense mobile/high end and desktop earnings for two months. My earnings are proportionate; i.e., 50% desktop traffic = 50% of revenue, 50% mobile traffic - 50% of revenue. So, for me, one device is not any better than the other as far as earnings.

AdSense has picked up, and the media.net and FB ads are doing way better than expected and direct ad sales are double, so while my peak season landscape looks different from previous years, it's definitely good.

I've been noticing some real lagging load times on AdSense recently, though. Was mostly a minor aggravation when things were slow, but when I've got six to ten thousand simultaneous users per site, it's becoming a serious issue.

Still doing incredibly well on Facebook as a publisher. And they are manipulating the bidding system and CPC prices for advertisers are going through the roof the last couple of months. I'm a $20K per month advertiser as well. Get on the FB train. If you don't have a highly mobile friendly site, don't bother applying though.
