The 336x280 Ad Size

In doing research on ad sizes I was surprised to find that the IAB delisted this ad unit four years ago [iab.com] claiming it is "...no longer commonly bought and offered throughout the market." Yet, as many reading this are aware, this size is one of the top performing AdSense sizes [support.google.com]. Does anyone have insight into why IAB would not relist this size?

I've no idea. What I do know is that for me, the 336x280 unit generates seven times the impressions and twelve times the earnings of the 300x250. And that includes the 336x280 backfilling with the 300x250 when there's no inventory.

@trebuchet, how can a different size ad unit generate 7x impressions? Are we talking fill rate here? Genuinely curious

Yes, that was my mistake sorry. I forgot that I'd replaced 300x250s with 336x280s on my two highest traffic sites. Fill rate on both seems about standard. The 336x280 is about 40% higher RPM.
