Google display ads go 100% HTML5 [plus.google.com]
- Starting June 30th, 2016, display ads built in Flash can no longer be uploaded into AdWords and DoubleClick Digital Marketing.
- Starting January 2nd, 2017, display ads in the Flash format can no longer run on the Google Display Network or through DoubleClick.

So what do you think, is this good, bad or indifferent?

I never liked 'em, so I'm fine with them going. I never used them on the advertising side either.

Are Flash Ads a factor in people wanting to use an adblocker ... or just is it no relation?

Flash ads - I never used 'em, too much of a risk as a publisher, and how could you ever top the punch the monkey ad! ;)

Glad to see the end of this era coming.

This is a advisement on x date G will NO LONGER ACCEPT flash ads. Nothing more. All the other ills will still remain so nothing much has changed (or will).
