Has Adsense changed?

"Create new custom channel" procedure?

Unless I'm missing something, when you go to Custom Channels and Create New Custom Channel, there used to be a section that asked you to name that new custom channel, indicate where it would appear (top, middle, etc.) and ask for a brief description.

That section seems to have disappeared, or maybe I'm just missing something.

You're right. The section/code is still there, but it's hidden now.

I think they've automated the collection of those data. Adwords assigns "topics" to placements based on content, and Adsense script pings back the coordinates of the ad unit.

Edit: Scratch that, targeting section is back.

I had this issue as well - everything under the "Find Ad Unit" textbox was now gone but in the code you could see it was set to hidden. So anything at the "Show this Custom Channel to Advertisers..." checkbox and beyond was not rendering for me. Contacted Adsense support and was told this is a "bug" with certain accounts. They implemented a "temporary fix" for me (I assume others as well) and said that a long-term solution would come "after the holidays".

This all just happened over the last 1.5 weeks or so.
