Mobile Ads - Why are true display ads so few?

It looks like almost all my mobile ads are text...very few ads what I would call true display ads (images/rich media). When I select display ads only (on mobile) it's 99% those awful text ads which for some reason AdSense "calls" image ads. They're not image ads - they're text ads. Has anyone had any luck actually increasing the % of true image/rich media ads on mobile?

Are you talking about the fixed mobile ads (320x50 or 320x100) or responsive put-in-whatever-fits type ads? I don't have a problem where I have specified a 300x250 ad - lots of inventory for those, but I don't see the small ones as image ads very often. I suspect that some advertisers who don't have graphics departments or agencies might be intimidated by trying to fit their message into such a small space (and still be compliant with AdWords)

Responsive ads. I feel like I used to see more of them (image/rich media), but lately I'm barely seeing any. Which seems odd to me since this site is all about fashion so there are tons of advertisers this time of year. On desktop/tablet no lack of image/rich media ads. It's VERY clear that the top fashion/apparel want nothing to do with mobile ads via Adwords/display network. My guess is that are using other mobile ad networks for mobile.

One of my clients fits that category and conversions are wayyyyy lower on mobile devices. We'll take mobile traffic if we can get it but only if it's cheap.
