Looking for advice on best practise for creating ad units...

I run several informational websites which all have the same layout but are for different geographic areas. At the moment I have separate ad units for each site, even though they appear in the same placement on each site. i.e. sidebar-geographicalarea1, sidebar-geographicalarea2, sidebar-geographicalarea3.

What I'd like to know, is it better, in terms of earnings, just to have one unit i.e sidebar-network and implement it across all sites or keep them as separate entities as above? Or does it even matter at all :)

It probably won't affect your total earnings, however it may help you interpret and understand them better. You'll also find it easier to run experiments or tests varying ad style, etc.

Test test test test. Nobody else's experience can do much to inform yours, unless they have your site, your content, your niche, your audience, your mix of mobile vs desktop, your available advertisers, and on and on and on.
