Anyone know how channels work, from the AdWords side?

I was just wondering if anyone here uses AdWords as well as AdSense, and knows how the channels work on the other side.

Say I've got a page with an advert at the top and bottom. At the moment I have a channel for each one, even though it's the same page, because Adsense lets you show where it is positioned. So I figured that an Adwords person might want to target a particular position instead of just the page.

Is that a total waste of time?

I was thinking I might just have one channel instead, which will bump up my impressions on it, making the numbers look a bit more impressive

They're not called channels on the AdWords side they're called placements. So if you do some searches in Google for AdWords Placement Targeting you'll get some help docs and blog posts about how they work.
