Companies are required to send out 1099 forms by Jan.31. It is now Feb. 11, and I have not received mine yet.
Google was late last year, as well. Last year, I concluded that the postmark date is not necessarily the actual date of mailing. I don't believe that back-dating is a defense.
Still waiting.
Feb. 15 is the day to report to the IRS that you have not yet received your required 1099.

I've been told by my accountant that a lot of companies are late sending out 1099s. The IRS does not go after them, so there is no real incentive to get them out on time.

FWIW, as of January 28 I couldn't get the stupid 1099 forms out of the IRS so I could send one to my developer. Presumably Google has more pull, but who knows.

The IRS hasn't released a number of critical forms yet. Kind of like Adsense stats. When you go changing the code for the underlying system whenever you feel like it, the reporting tools get FUBARed and they're the last things to get fixed (if you can call a tax form fixed). Rigged is more like it.

I don't know; I applied for them three times and got three postcards saying they weren't available. Finally snagged one from my accountant.

I don't understand what you need to "apply" for. Then again, my tax preparer has the software to process them, so I don't have to deal with the IRS.

Unlike some other forms, 1099s cannot be downloaded. They have to be mailed from the IRS or obtained from an accountant. I just got mine today, so the ones I send to my writers will be late.

Ah yes, I forgot about the annoying 1096 component of the 1098s. When I was working with taxes, we always had loads of extras in the office.

I spoke too soon. It came today, the 11th. Postmarked on Jan. 31. 49 cents. 48 cents usually gets a letter here within 2 days from Mountain View. I guess they needed to pay an extra cent, to get the extra week delay. ;)
I'm happy. They said I made slightly less than I had figured. 2013 was a banner year. No way, will I ever repeat that performance. They only give me 1/2 the traffic now.
