I have a website where I list movies by common themes and calculate wich movies are similiar to eachother. My comparisation algorithm is something I worked on for more than 2 years, it is pretty unique and gives good results. There is a market for people who are looking for movies that are similar to one they know, and I'm certain my information is usefull to them.
I use covers-images and short movie-descriptions on my site that come from the api of themoviedb.org. Obviously, some of that content is not going to be very original. If I google search some of the sentences that come from the api then I can sometimes find them on dozens of sites, including the likes of imdb and other major movie sites. I was never bothered by that because there are not a hundred ways to describe a movie in 50-75 words and often the lines comes straight from the movie studios. But after 2 years of using their service, Adsense now suddenly thinks it is a problem. My account is still active, but my ads for this site have been disabled. I tried to explain them I'm not just scraping data from other sites, that I'm really doing something unique and usefull with it. So far I had no respons from adsense yet, but I don't think there will be much room for discussion.
So I would like to have your advice in reducing the damage. Some questions that I have:
1) if I remove the api-text-content and only show images, names of movies, years of release, names of actors and directors, and a list of relevant keywords associated with those movies, would Adsense still think this is a usefull (and now original) website ? I'm afraid they would complain of 'no content' in that case.
2) If I start a new website with the same content, but I manually rewrite the text lines I recieve from the api to something original, would I stand a chance to maintain my adsense account and show ads on my new site ? I was never totally satisfied with my domain name choice, so this is the moment to switch, as hard as that may be.
3) If I rewrite some pages to make them truly original and show adsense ads there, and keep other pages like they were but without putting any adsense code on them ... would that be a problem for google ? I guess that 90% of my adsense income is from 10% of my pages, so it's doable to rewrite that content myself and save a lot of the income without rewriting everything. Will google complain if non-adsense pages are not totally unique according to them ?
