Adsense value for sites that target kids

Do any of you manage a website that specifically targets teenagers (specifically, high school age)?

I have a very popular local site, and am thinking about a teen-oriented version. But I'm not sure how well Adsense will work, since most (if not all) of the subscribers are too young to have a credit card or buy online after clicking an ad. I'm assuming that they would see an ad, then tell their parents, who would then make a purchase at a later date (probably on a different computer).

From your experience, can this be as profitable through Adsense as an adult-oriented site? I'd be happy if it's even half as profitable, really, but I'm concerned that even 50% might be too much to hope for.

If you have a website like that, CPM advertisers or advertisers that focus on games may work better than adsense. Especially if they generate a tons of pageviews without actually clicking on ads. (Unless your teenager site focuses on academics haha).

Your best shot is to test them out and see how they fare.

I have game related site and it's core audiences are teens to late 20's.

I found that pop under worked extremely well with one of the game network that I use. But then that may not fare with your user experience depending on what they expect out of your site.

One of my most AdSense-profitable sites gets overwhelmingly high school type teen traffic. AdSense/AdWords over the years have become smarter to detect and serve them.

In my experience with quite a few diverse demographics, right ads today follow right people, not necessarily only the right content.

Besides, advertising is for every demographic. It isn't only for people who flash their credit cards instantly. Advertising can have much larger goals of branding, new signups, loyalty, top-of-mind recall, etc, etc.

I have also learnt that if you have authentic, well-established and trusted webspace serving well targeted audience, advertisers will compete for it (just like the offline world.)

And contrary to popular opinion, I don't entirely believe that AdSense primarily works best for audiences who're "in the mood of buying." I mean it's one thing to build another "camera review" site for camera ads for potential camera buyers (to quote an old AdSense done-to-death example), but seriously, how much good audience can that 'reviewer' today attract in today's social media heavy internet? They might need to advertise their own sites in places where the 'right' audience exists in the first place. So if you have authentic/established space, your competition also places ads there (to your great monetary benefit.)

I've also learnt that the hardest part today is getting great right audience, not just more and more audience. Great audience that sticks to your space gets delivered the best paying advertising, whatever the demographics.

Having said all that, everyone's experience is different. And there's no harm in trying. I'd say go for it and see what happens! :)
