yea they have one, but they haven't made much noise about it on the advertising side, so there might not be a lot of inventory (other than text ads) yet. Or you'll see a 728x90 in the spot, and they usually surround it by an ugly yellow background that's 970x90. At least that's what I've seen in the wild.

Not directly. If you get a better CTR because it's more noticeable you might earn more, but that's about it.

This is good news for pubs with the larger ad slots -- it should increase the eCPM for that ad slot. I'll watch the performance of my 336x280 and see if the revenue takes an uptick.

They've been serving 300x250 in336x280 for at least a month. The difference is, now you can disable the behavior.

Doh, and just last week I switched my 300x250 and 336x280 ad units to alternate between the two using A/B testing. They invalidated my results before I even knew ;)

So obviously the new AdSense recommendation will be to use 336x280 instead of 300x250 because they will just put either ad in the same space, whichever pays more. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

Right, that's a good point. The algo also balances it out so that the amount of clicks on a high CPC or low CPC earn more, one or the other. In theory.

I want them to STOP showing a centered 248x60 single ad in my 300x600 multi-ad unit, too bad that's not an option.

We’ve already updated this for our 300x600 and 970x90 ad units and now we’ve extended this flexibility to our 336x280 ad unit, allowing it to serve a 300x250 ad when doing so will maximize the performance of that ad unit for the publisher.

With this change you may now occasionally see a 300x250 ad served in your 336x280 ad unit when that unit is opted in to showing image ads. 300x250 and 336x280 image ads will both compete for your 336x280 ad unit with the most competitive ad served thus maximizing the earnings on your ad unit. When a 300x250 image is served it will be centered in the 336x280 ad unit...

Increased competition, in theory, means increased earnings.
