I have no way to know that it's actually human trafficking, but I don't like these ads on my sites and I just sent a similar screenshot to Google yesterday. The URL is cloaked too, so you can't block it.

I don't actually believe it's human trafficking. on the other hand, i don't believe if i click on the link i'm going to be chatting with Tatiyana, the 24 year old from Odessa. Either way, it seems to be a violation of the Adwords TOS.

I had trouble with crap ads like this years ago. Contacted support back then and got as much as an apology. I haven't seen much of those ads lately, but you can block categories. I've blocked all the sensitive ones.

Blocking ads actually affects your revenue for the worst. Just leave it. It's not against TOS if Google does it.

Well some of those ads break the law where I live. I'd rather not go to jail. The one I got an apology for was go-to-jail material: an actively prosecuted topic.

Moreover most of those ads are not good for the long term relationship I want with my visitors. So while in the short run it might mean a very small decrease in revenue, in the long run I'm the clear winner by blocking all the crap (and I'd love to be able to block even more e.g. anything mentioning "free", or anything leading to sites with downloads on them).

I don't care if they're legal, I don't want them on my sites. According to Google they only make up like .004 of my revenue anyway. I can afford it.

Easier to just block the whole dating category.

I would definitely block that and other certain categories. There is zero proof at this time that blocking categories or ad networks guarantees that your earnings will go down. In fact, my data tells me just the opposite. Being opted into the dating categories may have a TINY positive effect on your earnings in say the finance category. But what if all of a sudden you have ads related to dating and no one is clicking on them? Then your CTR tanks and you make less. In my experience with AdSense, common analytical and business sense trumps all the "rules" and "best practices" they want you to believe.

It's not against TOS if Google does it.

Also, this is WAY not true. Not only do I see it on the AdWords, but I've had revenue yanked back because the advertiser was doing something against TOS and it took Google awhile to find it. It's not easy to get something past their review process, but it's definitely doable. And it gets done.

The relationship with my visitors is the most important thing. I get a lot of repeat traffic, and they trust my site. The last thing I need is visitors being offended by particular ads. I block all iffy categories.

"Site topic interests far more men than women". From the advertiser's POV, that's all the demographic they need.

Ah lucy, however many of my more specialised and even more expensive products are of far greater interest to women :-)

You guys gotta stop visiting those adult chat sites and those ads won't follow you around.

My browsers clear all garbage/history/whatever every time I shut them down, all but one browser is not even allowed to drop cookies ... for me it was pure ad randomness however it may have been on one of my. asia sites!

FWIW: both my adsense and my own accounts are set to not use interest based ads (as much as possible).

Interest based is fundamentally broken IMHO.

I block all the sensitive categories except video games. I don't mind them. The rest of it is pure trash that I don't want on my sites.

swa66, I totally agree on interest ads. They are AWFUL! I am getting higher CPCs without them, my earnings have gone up. And people that come to my site don't get followed by stuff they searched for two days ago.

I personally loathe interest based ads. I hate them. You see the same crap on every site you go to that has interest ads on. I will never allow them on my sites again. They have nothing to do with my content, and just clutter up my pages.

BTW, I know that Google claims you will have lower earnings or whatever if you turn them because of the ad auctions. I think that's bunk, at least on my sites. They seem to offer little or no value to my sites, and they were clocking in at about 35% of my ad impressions. I should have turned them off a long time ago.

You may also want to block the third party ad networks. they seem to show a lot of bad ads. I have them all turned off and used the setting to automatically disable all new third party networks. They seem to just be pure junk ads.

It's best practice to leave 3rd party networks on because it stimulates competition and higher earnings. Just keep an eye on your ads and if you see some you don't like ban them. There are different ways of banning ads though. Make sure you ban the entire domain so it catches the various subdomains etc.

Martin, I don't care about "best practice." It simply doesn't work for me. I stopped buying into that idea, and my earnings are up. Your mileage may vary, however.

And I don't have time to sit and monitor all of my ads to catch the crappy third party ones.

I turned off the 3rd party networks when I saw over millions of impressions they'd only made me about $3.

For the most part I don't like to mess with the dials, but some things just don't fit on my sites. And I love interest based ads - for other people. If all my sites just got contextual ads, it would be a disaster.

I turned off interest based ads some time ago, but still get them. I don't think it works.

i don't want to turn off the dating category because a large portion of my content is hiking and wilderness related and there are some quality ads regarding meeting other people to hike with that I assume would fall into the category. i haven't been following this site for quite a while now after deciding SEO was a bad proposition and just spent more time developing content. I didn't even know i could block interest based ads or 3rd party networks. I will have to check into that and I think I will follow this particular forum much more often, but turning my back on SEO has worked well for me.
i definitely am not a fan of the interest based ads as a user. i buy things pretty quickly and impulsively. chances are if i've searched for a product, it was bought within a half hour but the ads show up for weeks.

Powdork: if you have them dating ads turned on: you can see how much they earn you if you're worried about the short term income.
I kinda doubt a true hiking group meetup is an ad that would go in the "dating category".

My first and pretty much last experience with Adsense was nearly 10 years ago when I ran it on a site with a mainly female audience talking about issues like gender discrimination, and we got repeated ads stating that you could date a hot Asian girl (offline, not on) tonight! FAIL. Guess some things never change.

Other ad brokers let you get far more granular with your blocking choices. For example, you can run the legit "dating site" ads (Match and so forth) without getting anything that sounds like an escort service.

Here in Hong Kong, some weeks ago had ads showing up with cartoons of scantily clad girls, Chinese text.
One had pulsating breasts, another - as I recall - had hands opening and closing as if groping away.

I saw on several sites, inc an international newspaper I think; also on mine [blocked them.]
Not sure what they were for - #*$! or whatever.

May have appeared on your sites, too. I believe the targeting was regional, but it mattered little what the content was.
- would be tough for most webmasters to moderate, if not seen in their own areas.
Also, showed very questionable decisions on part of Google's ad team.
