Huge disparity: Adsense pageviews vs. actual pageviews.

What is going on?

Example: I'll have 1000 individual visits for today, based on the counter I use to keep track of traffic.

Adsense will say I have only 600 individual visits.

The disparity is growing bigger.

The amount of ad loads reflects the same disparity.

It's always been like this but it's getting worse.

Your counter may count bots and other unreal people.

I thought my counter was set to ignore bots, but it wasn't for any sites, so i fixed that. That should make up for some of it. Adblock might explain some of the adload disparity.

I should note I have *my own* browsers turned off, so my hits are not showing up on my counter.

The internet is this wonderful source of info....except it is overrun with these big, flashy, page-stealing, attention grabbing ads. Adding injury to insult, many of the ad networks are slow to load, and greatly delay page display of some top tier websites.

Block the ads and it's like a beautiful private garden that someone else weeds.

If google text ads is all there ever were, I don't think I would have bothered. But the ads we have are really obnoxious -- many browsers agree -- look how yahoo with their strong display ads and google with text ads have fared over the last 10 years. People don't like the annoying ads, most just don't know how to fix it.

Not to mention certain advertisers use annoying hyperbole that immediately alters the brain to "avoid avoid avoid" that ad.

Some of the targeting on my sites is also way off. I have a few "anti" sites that are showing "pro" ads in contrast to the content.

For example, you have a site showing how one product is better than another, but they show ads showing the product you are criticising. That's just a waste for the advertiser.

I've set everything to "text only" ads... especially considering my sites are pared-down from a visual standpoint, and the media ads stick out like a sore thumb.

AdSense doesn't measure visits, it measures page views. And AdSense only counts page views that have ads on them; analytics or stat counters usually are set to count ALL pages.

I figured it out, my stat counter is double counting almost evertyhing. Adsense is correct. Oh well. Definitely explains why there were so few hits on some of the slow days... the stat counter was inflating everything.
