What do you think of Adsense's promoted site?

...i'm talking about the site that is currently being promoted on the Adsense login page. Maybe it's a different one in each country, but the one that i'm seeing on the login page at the moment is a car buying site. I guess he's taken over from AskTheBuilder.

have you had a chance to look at the site and see how they've done their ads?

my first thought was that there are very few ads. i seem to get a message every week from google telling me to put 3 ads on each page and enable the images, but this guy just seems to have one solitary ad on his deep-down pages (none at all on his main category pages), and they are all text.

i'm sure he's making a pile of money, but it seems like a funny site for Google to promote, given that he's not paying any attention to what they tell us to do.

I thought I was the only sad git that did that sort of thing. :)
The one on the UK log on - realcartips - I cannot even see an Adsense advert, so I don't know where they are supposed to be on the site.

Then again, it was like that with the flower site they had before. And IIRC, the site ceased to exist after a while.

thats one of the wierd things... you have to dig deep down into the site before you see one. and even then it's only one text ad per page. all of their category and index pages are totally free of ads (they don't even have non-adsense ads).
so it's the total opposite of what google suggests for us

I didn't go through much of his site, but I don't see Adsense. So how is Adsense letting him live the life he's always dreamed of? Of course, we don't know what kind of life that is.

That one wasn't the promoted site in the email I got (maybe cause I'm in the US) but we don't know... maybe he doesn't get many clicks but the ones he gets are REALLY BIG ONES.

My guess is netmeg is half right...the clicks he gets are REALLY BIG ONEs because cars are an expensive purchase...and he probably gets a decent amount of clicks. Take a look at the Week Tips section and I think you'll see how he's making AdSense work for him.

I would never want to be on the Adsense log on page.
For one, it will attract the jealous ones that will clickbomb you, or do something to have your account closed.
Or, you'll attract scrapers even more so.

Then there will be others that will create 100's of car sites, just because this one is doing well.

Dumb move IMO.

On almost all his inside pages the Adsense adverts are overwhelming.

The H1 headline is at the top, squeezed in between two adverts above the fold.

The skyscraper is slap on your face at the left, the 336 x 280 again smack on your face to the right.

The third advert is a leader-board towards the end.

He also has about three Affiliates links well-disguised - you do not see the partner ID when you hover over them but they are there in the code "recordOutboundLink" maybe a script to hide them?

The article itself renders in 50 characters across max on my screen settings.

The subject matter is well written but thin.

Does not look bad in my opinion.

Pushing the envelope to the max but still looks like a usable site.

AdSense code he's using is all dated 5/20/09

(Of course, now when I go look at my site, I see car ads. Damn IBA tracking!)
