Maxed out on Adsense Units

Is it ok to add a unit from another network?

I have used up my allotted amount of adsense ad and link blocks on my content pages. I recently added a 3rd party network and added one of their leaderboard ads.

Looking at the ad, it is impossible to tell if it is a Google ad or a different network. This 3rd party network assures me I am not violating Google's TOS.

However, reading the guidelines below, they say the other ad networks ads must look different. How do I make the 3rd party network's random leaderboard ads look different then google's random leaderboard ads?

Anyone else using google adsense and a different networks ads on the same page? Am I tugging on superman's cape?

Here are google guidelines:

Google ads on the same page with other ads You're welcome to display Google ads on the same site or page as other third party advertisements provided that the formatting or colors of the third party ads is different enough from that of the Google ads. In other words, if you choose to place non-Google ads on the same site or page as Google ads, it should always be clear to the user that the ads are served by different advertising networks and that the non-Google ads have no association with Google. If the formats are naturally similar, we ask that you choose different color schemes for the competing ads.

Our intent with this policy is to be as fair to our advertisers as possible and to maintain the integrity of the AdWords and AdSense programs. You can learn more about this, and all our policies, on our program policies page.
Please also be aware that competitor ads are considered to be part of your site's content and must follow our policy guidelines.

If your banner ad can't be distinguished from a Google ad, then I for one wouldn't run it.

The image ads that Google runs on my sites have the blue arrow up top.

A number of companies now use those arrows, making it hard to tell which advert belongs to whom.

But if the OP has already maxed out what he/she is allowed, and now wants more adverts, it is going to be a spammy looking site.

Yeah, these ads have the same blue arrow on top that they google ads have. I think I am going to take the new ad network down even though the ad network says I have nothing to worry about and most of their partners mix adsense with their ads.

You can utilize google's dfp ad server to run extra ads. I just talked to one of their reps who said a 4th or 5th banner ad can look like adsense if run through dfp, but I kind of doubt that. But some networks have text ads that do not look like adsense and are clearly marked with their network name.

I run Casale Media and AOL ads alongside Adsense for many years and have no problem. The above ad policy is probably referring to Text ad format.

That's what I was thinking. Text ads can be made to look different but if they are served banners, they all pretty much look alike.

THE WHOLE GOAL OF THE POLICY: "You can't have an ad network that is pretending its ads are from Google.�

That's it!

Too many people read so deeply into the policy that they assumed having another Text or Image advertiser was prohibited.
Wrong!

No matter how the other networks' ads look, you can use them with Google Adsense!

It is illegal for Google to impose any policy that stops you from using another ad network along with them unless the ad network violates a �Serve Policy that hurts Googles business� 'Porn, Pretending to be Google, Racism, Scams, etc".

For Google to stop you from using a Competitor�s ads, Google would be violating Monopoly laws in the United States �and most other countries with Monopoly/Anti-trust Laws�.
But this doesn�t stop over cautious and paranoid webmaster from spreading the fear all over the internet in IM\Adsense\Webmaster forums.

FYI: If you were ever banned for using another ad network who�s ad�s looked similar to Google �but in no way claim to be�, Contact the FTC and get paid!

Adsense publisher who tend to put all their eggs in one basket, seem to be very very paranoid when i comes to Google's policy and always play on the side of extreme caution.

Which lead them to never try anything but Adsense, which further puts them in a state of dependency, making them even more paranoid.

It's better to make $8,000 a Month from 8 Sources, then to make $10,000 from a single Source Online "in the long run"! << Please remember this!

It's better to get 100,000 unique visitors a month, split between 5 sources "email, social, search, bookmark, AND Paid", then to get 200,000 unique visits from a single source only. << Remember this!
