Someone here mentioned pop ups or modal windows on adsense a few months back..

With pop ups blocked I haven't seen if these are appearing in my browsing or not. If I had seen one I would probably have assumed it was fake and run a full virus check.

How do we get paid for this? Per Click? Per survey submitted? or ?

Right, but I've seen the survey, and it pops up. That's how it's implemented.

I don't think they've been very widely used as yet, I only very occasionally run into them.

Supposedly publishers are paid, but I have no idea how it works. I guess you have to apply:

[services.google.com...]

From what it says though, it wants news publishers and "premium" publishers, so they're probably thinking it only makes sense on those sites where they're likely to get a lot of surveys.

It it is part of Adsense, then it is rather odd that we cannot have adverts in pop-up windows, but these awful things are allowed. I wouldn't want them on my sites. It is one way to piss-off a visitor.

I agree, I only allow the types of adverts that I'm prepared to endure myself and pop-ups/unders are most definitely not on that list.

Google are looking into this, so hopefully they will get to the bottom of this.

THAT sounds like some kind of browser infecting malware. I doubt that Google is serving it, but something else might be triggering it when it comes across Google ads.

It also could be something along the lines of this, that got passed around last month (and is sure sobering)

Earlier yesterday I disabled the vast majority of the 3rd party networks within Adsense and from the feedback of users so far it looks to have 'solved' it.

Your link is indeed disturbing, reminded me of the ISP replacing adverts thing from a while back.
