i read in the paper today that ITV (one of the big UK TV channels) was expecting 10% less money this christmas because of a lack of advertisers. apparently everyone was paying loads more for the same slots, this time last year. they're all tightening their belts, expecting the economy to get worse.

i guess that's a good indication of why some people are seeing a dip in earnings. there's not much we can do if there's fewer advertisers around, all bidding lower amounts of money.

However, Google continue to make more money every three months somehow, and surely they are in the business of selling advertising. Maybe I'm missing something here.

A lot posted here about adsense means nothing to most when you don't know what the actual earnings are or what the sites are about or site structure. No different when someone says they have a good versus bad day without more data than that. You really can't compare someone with a site on widget A against someone with a site on widget B. Know what I mean?

What I am showing is there are changes one can make that have a direct impact on your adsense earnings.

In my case it was url structure which horribly effected some of my sites in search engines. Same content otherwise. I made corrections mid october and you can see the results for November.

I started to troll the message board when I noticed some of my sites tank and wanted to see if others saw the same results.

percentage increases are the worst thing to post, because they dont mean anything unless you know the starting figure.

someone starting from 1 cent is going to show an amazing 100% increase if he gets a dollar, but no one is going to take tips from a dollar-earning website. because what's a dollar? or even 5 dollars? people here can earn that in a single click.
an increase of 500% for you could be less than 1% for us.

if you were originally earning 100 dollars a day and then improved it by 100%, then that would be worth knowing.

One must understand how to calculate percentage before one can find meaning in the results. A 100% increase over 1 cent would be 2 cents. Going from 1 cent to $1 is a 10,000% increase.

Yes and No.

Lets say you have a site. We discuss "placement" and with proper placement we all increase what ever our daily revenue by 103%, 234% or 900%... now it's not meaningless anymore...

Let say we discuss the value of a "click"... We discuss how to get better earning clicks and discuss by percentages what our revenue increased.

Not so meaningless....

I consult clients on adword use but never bothered using adwords to generate traffic to an adsense site. Seems lame :) Don't you all think good content is king?

Oh I spend it on hobbies. That is how I come up with content.

Did anybody have a noticeable CPM drop yesterday and into today? It looks like I am seeing a 30% drop or so. It may be that a bigger advertiser has pulled out or something and that this is just isolated to my site, but I wanted to throw this out there in case anybody else saw something similar.

Wow, amazing :) Today's impression remains normal, but the earning is the lowest since 2004 (excluding days with technical problems). And I thought it couldn't be worse.

Thanks for the comments. Given the relative quiet on this subject, I suspect for most people it's business as usual.

I'm thinking there might be a reporting bottleneck causing low click numbers. Today's reporting is odd with only US clicks reporting so far (from yesterday?) -- no non-US clicks registered as yet, which would be normal at this time.

My stats have been tardy for months now but they usually catch-up overnight my time, it's situation normal insofar as my experience is concerned.
