I think some people have good original content, have worked hard on SEO and still get nowhere. I find it beneficial to work hard on backlinks, and once a site gains in popularity more and more people tend to link to you without you even needing to request it - that's when you know you're onto a good thing.

I wasn't being sarcastic.
I help people with blogs with adsense.
They always ask me about made for adsense sites and stuff like that. I did all that crap when adsense first came out and was able to hit up to $3000 a month. Lot's a traffic, lots of little clicks all add up. Once Google tighten how their search ranks sites that dried up.
My sites are still up and I still get a check every month. Lately though I'm starting to play again with adsense..
What I should have said is.... The higher quality the content is the better quality ads I get. Lately I have been average a little over $1 a click on my personal blogging sites about my hobbies. gardening, photography and what ever goofy stuff I come up with.

Playing may have got you somewhere in the past, it needs serious thought and work these days.

Mm anyone can do that, kidding. Seriously tonyolm very nice job, I'm in a similar field.
Now back to the OP "What I have learned about adsense." 1. Adsense is confusing :/ 2. Somehow, NOW, the days I update, I get lower earnings, if the trend continues I will share my case for discussion
I guess there is a lot more I could say about what I have learned from this forum in general, specially from old very often understimated threads, having great effects on the sites and Adsense overall.

Adsense isn't confusing.. or at least the concept...
I learned that placement can seriously effect your clicks over the years. I started adsense March 2004.
I got spammed one day and there was an email saying "Adsense secrets" or "secrets of adsense"...for $19.99...I hate spam.
I was up to about 200 bucks with dozens and dozens of wasted hours of work...So I figure I'll respond to the email and piss away $19.99. That was the best $19.99 I ever spent.. The few little things I learned worked... But it still boils down to good content and time.
Unique content if you want visitors to return.

Yep, it is all about content. Well written, fresh content that provides an actual service to users. The more and better our content, the more money we make.

I also wonder.. do you think the people who sell how to make money with adsense make more money by selling the idea of making money with adsense... Or more money with their adsense?

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.
(which is not really fair to legitimate teachers, but hey, I didn't make the saying up)

OH that's funny.... Those who can't, teach.
HuskyPup is correct. It was a lot easier to make some money with adsense when it first came out.
Anyone recommend a good firefox plug-in to monitor your adsense for win 7 firefox 5.0. The plug-in I was using didn't have an upgrade for firefox 5
