Massive Difference In Page Views Between Ad Units?

Ad Units on all the same pages why the difference?

Hello,

I was evaluating a site I bought a few months ago and (not sure it matters, but it is the new Adsense interface) and found something quirky.

I have 3 ad units on every page, two 468x60 (one on the left one on the right down the page) and one 120x600 at the bottom of the page content.

The site has reasonably good traffic (20k uniques a day), however when I generate performance reports it shows a lot of page views (which I believe is accurate) for only 1 ad unit (one of the 468x60), and very little for the other two ad units. Please note I don't have any custom channels setup at the moment (was planning to optimize soon).

Also for the other 468x60 ad unit, although it is showing very low page views it has more or less equal clicks as the one that shows the correct/much greater page views.

Any idea why this is happening? Above any other issues it is making it very hard for me to really evaluate performance CTR, etc of the ad units individually and accurately. All help really appreciated.

It's a known problem of Adsense with some of the reports.

More info here:
The problem is for reports where a single page view generates statistics for multiple rows: Ad units, Ad sizes, Custom channels, Ad types, Targeting types, Bid types. For instance, if a page contains ad units with different ad sizes / ad types / etc., then only the ad size / ad type / etc. of the first ad unit will get the page view. The other gets no page views, hence show invalid page views, page CTR, and page RPM.

Thank you very much Bddmed that was very helpful! For anyone else that lands on this page (from Google or otherwise) in the top right (new Adsense interface) from the columns drop down menu change from Page Views to ad requests or individual ad impressions.

Thanks again Bddmed

Pageviews are only counted for the first Ad Unit on a page.

Don't be fooled by the "bid type" stats either. The number for CPM impressions could not possibly be correct. Making these stats almost useless, other than to see the well known fact the PPC ads pay way better the CPM. Plus CPM ads displace the better paying PPC ads. (This analysis probably only applies to pages with highly targeted content that don't produce enormous traffic)
