The problem is THEY Deside when that is SO, and if Britney needs to be tanked for the next X Days they could do so at will. Speculation but at the same time Reality as we see it...

I uninstalled Chrome and will never install it again. I hadn't used it for months

Did you unintall everything, even the parts that continue to report home on a regular basis? One of those evils of letting the "devil" in is getting "pure" again...

at the moment google indeed seems to run the biggest marketing campaign ever. here in berlin the billboards are full of chrome ads all over the place. simultaneously, a major tv ad campaign for their browser. rarely seen that cross-media presence before by any other advertiser. they want to push their product through on a huge scale right now.

Nope, like I said earlier in the thread, I'm seeing Google.nl

I went into try blocking google.com and I was already doing it. So I've been blocking them since they pushed something else too much many months or even a year or two ago. They seem to change the rules and push whatever thing they are thinking about buying (groupon) or selling. My numbers were up from the previous year so I don't think blocking them will cause a catastrophe.

But you serve adsense ads right? They track just as much that way.

no I don't make my money online via ads, I don't use goog and I have all of goog's ads blocked.

The issue isn't whether Chrome is good or evil, the issue is why is Google shoving ads for Chrome and AdSense into people's websites that aren't about technology.

Is it really? The majority of people are using a browser to view your site, so it's completely on-target. The downfall is that for most topics the Chrome ads will pay significantly less than the ads that would be running.

can you manually block the chrome ads? If i remember correctly there was some settings to block ads, ex block your competitors ads do you didn't show them on your site

I don't like this at all - as has been said before, are Google seriously going to pay publishers the same as if a "tickets", "football boots" or "weight loss program" ad was paying for clickthroughs (all are examples that I have seen in the past 24 hours). Like hell they are. Most publishers probably won't even see the ads - but they may see a drop off in epc/cpm rates as consumer see this rubbish.

Or maybe it's user-targetting for all Adsense publishers?

BTW - is this Image only ads? i.e. is there also a text versiopn people have seen?

Can anyopne supply a list of all the google variants so we can block them? I have already done .com and .co.uk but have seen a few ads still coming through with google.nl as someone else noted above.

One more step of G pushing their own interests first.

Yep - which is why I wonder if anyone has a comprehensive list of opt out urls so I can stop them doing it through my sites at my expense (FWIW)!

Interest based ads means you've no idea if it targets you or your website.

Before the interest based stuff I was in touch with the adsense team as they were pushing their Google maps stuff hard and it conflicted with some of my content.

They claimed I could block it using the competitive fitler -and it worked- they claimed they did pay the ads, and I saw a noticable drop in revenue as I blocked it/unblocked it.

Currently it's unblocked and I do get them it seems -but well interest based they might know I've some interst in browser, mapping technology etc.-, but their ads have changed so the content of the ads isn't in the context of my website misleading my visitors anymore.

As far as browsers go: MSIE: just say no.

You could imagine, that i looked closely: ALL 7 billboards on my way from the office to my home in Frankfurt (Germany) carry Chrome ads! Even the smaller ones at the bus station!

Could this be a due to a lack of inventory? Given tabish stated they have a niche site? I know several people that have severely limited or oped out of adsense for content.

Maybe they want the browser market share really, really, really bad! It ensures their revenue stream... So paid or lack of inventory: every active installation of their browser might be evaluated with 30-70 US$. Maybe higher... Indirect stock value manipulation! Plain and simple...

I have had Google in my competitive ad filter for at least an year.

I use Chromium as my secondary browser, but I will keep using Firefox until something else can match its plugins.

Could be. G. themselves, with unrelated ads, forcing advertisers to pay more to be on top. I'd say proof of this is an ad on my site for a specific generator. Sometimes Adwords ads show, you refresh the page and it shows that of other generator companies competing for the spot. An Adwords ad is out of place in that spot. I'm sure there is something terribly wrong going on there. I don't buy into the "they have the smarter people in the planet and I'm sure they researched the issue prior.." sentiment. They might have the most skilled programmers in the planet but it is on record they have violated laws left and right. Wi-fi, Buzz, email intrusion, etc. I'm sure you ask any of their top Adword programmers what shill bidding is and he'd go, "my man, say that again.." G. is a company ran by programmers. Even M.C. says all the time "I'll get back to you on that. I need to check with my programmers". That's why they are in so much trouble all over the world.

Advertisers not only pay more, but sometimes lose to G. for the top position. I'm sure there is something illegal there. Probably some issues related to antitrust laws too due to their participation in the auction process as they have the unfair advantage of having knowledge of the quality score algo., etc.
