I have noticed a very good €/click lately for my site, including some click records. It seem to be another "nice" month.

How can you tell if one click was for $9.00 vs. the earnings column being behind and suddenly catching up showing a number of clicks equaling $9.00 ?

farmboy, I have Google Analytics and AdSense merged, and I can go into the day's stats and see how many clicks per URL per metric (say, location) and how much those earned.

I think the highest click I ever saw reported was one for just under $6.00. It was early, and it was the only click on the channel. I couldn't be positive of course, but I suspected it came from one of the local lawfirm ads that had been showing up on my site at the time.

Unusually for that site yes, as I said it's a very low volume and a very niche site and...today I've had USD 7.00 click on my busiest site on a low volume url channel!

We get 20 dollar clicks many times a day. Usually we average in the 10 dollar range. Biggest click I can remember was for around 35 dollars.

I got a $37 click once (Once!) In that niche, I really suspect they meant 37c :)

I would feel like WOW, if I get even 1/4th of your average ($10) on a regular basis.

Similar - couple of weeks ago got a £9 click on a site that usually gets about 9 pence.

Obviously anyone who wants to keep making ten or twenty dollar clicks is not going to want to divulge his niche.

netmeg said it all :) I will say though it's not so much the niche as it is a combination of converting for advertisers in that niche.

It appears that the whole system is out of whack today. On a page that I normally get low paying clicks, I just saw one click for $1.90. On another page where I usually get a medium amount of pay per click, I am getting 1 cent per click.

This seems to be happening on a more frequent basis lately. There is no rhyme or reason for this. Each day I look at my stats and I see a completely different pattern.

karter, exactly. A few years ago we sat at around 3-4 bucks per click. While not bad by any means we looked at everything Google was telling us to do. Things like dont overblend, stay away from nav.

All stuff that would cause possible accidental clicks. This was a big change in attitude from G since the adsense beta was launched so they had to have a reason.

We moved our ads, made them clearly ads by using the stock default blue color set. We took an initial hit in CTR but slowly epc started to rise and rise and rise. So although we are doing 25% less clicks due to placement and color changes we are seeing a 400% increase in average EPC so total earnings way up.

Another piece of information that was useful was the hundreds of hours we spent testing the now defunct CPA program. In all of our tests across many sites and many color schemas we found that although blended units had a higher CTR they didnt come close to the conversion ratio of the default blue.

Not sure why but over and over again default blue worked out to have the highest conversion ratio for hundreds of products. So we tied all of that into our overhaul and for us at least it worked out.

If your traffic/clicks convert for advertisers I think they are really willing to shell out the bucks for it. I gave this same advice a year ago and now several of my competitors moved to default blue shortly after so I know they read this board:) They all are still running default blue to this day so it must be working for them as well.

The only monkey wrench in this whole thing is the interest based ads, I wish Google would let us see the data for that.

I'm an advertiser. You best believe that I monitor which sites send me traffic that converts, and I bid a whole lot more per click with those sites. I regularly go in and find them, then I put them in separate campaigns with better bids.

Obviously the conversion part happens on the landing page. But I look for (and reward with higher bids) sites that will send me traffic that is *likely* to convert.

That would work like this, Earnings Per Click (EPC) goes up enough for every click you do get that it makes up for the lower CTR.

Does that mean advertisers are paying more per click? I always assumed that more clicks were better.

There's a lot of different things that go into the value of a click. Advertiser bid, advertiser quality score, publishing smart pricing, search network, display network, dayparting, competition, number of advertisers, number of ad placements, niche, traffic quality; that's just a start.

I'll make a long story short but after my site was moved into WordPress over a year ago my CTR and income almost dropped in half. I kind of went into a panic.

Having to hire people to do back-end work on my site, I spent a lot of time and money trying to get income back to at least the level it was before the move. I concentrated on simplifying the design, color scheme and improving navigation and page load time.

A paid consultant recommended a few changes to AdSense placement, colors and size.

Following the changes CTR ever gradually increased, but it has never again climbed to the level it was before the move. However, the last six months income is improving and, on average, it is close to double what it was the same time last year (and slightly higher than before the move).

I just could never really figure out how income could increase without a corresponding increase in clicks.

Go read up on how the advertising part (AdWords) works. Pay attention to details. For example, I'm not nutmeg.

I sometimes get very high dollar clicks and I am assuming those are conversions for advertisers. My sites don't send sales, but leads and some of those leads are worth big money.

LOL Netmeg I was just about to say these nuts.... - But just to stay on point I realize I get bigger clicks when I have less Ad Units. Never really had the time to test it - but has anyone seen it.
