Late last night, just before I went to bed I got the infamous "Account temporarily disabled" page. This has happened before, but it usually fixed itself automagically after 20 minutes or so. But this time it's been 8+ hours. What the heck is going on? Why can't Google send an email explaining what is going on? I'm getting an ulcer here!

Has anyone else been disabled for more than 8 hours, then been enabled for no reason?

I've never heard of accounts being "temporarily" disabled.

Well I tried several times to do the SMS thing, but I never got the SMS. Then I found out that if I'm giving someone my number outside of Sweden, I have to remove the initial zero. So I did that, and got the SMS right away and my account was reactivated *shew* Why it was disabled is still a mystery though.

I sure learned my lesson: don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I think the real story here is what if you are using an Android phone or Google Voice and this happens, you are dead in the water.

Yes, sometimes mistakes are made, and therefore it makes sense to have several 'revenue streams'.

oh sorry... to clarify. When this happens, you have the option of reactivating the account by entering a code that Google sends to you via SMS (text message on a mobile phone). Drum had the same prob as me, and never received the SMS, but then he tried his wife's phone and it worked.

Android is a mobile phone programming platform.

I think the big issue is if Google disables you and you use Google Voice - your phone will not work.

I am more confused than ever...since when has AdSense been contacting via SMS?

It's hard enough to get any response from them let alone a text message...ah...the penny has just dropped, I think...are you referring to webmaster accounts?

Would the parties involved with explanations in this thread please clarify?

An AdSense account is temporarily disabled, and I gather the person found out by getting a page advising them of this fact when they tried to login. And in order to get the account activated again, Google sends a message via cell phone with a code to reactivate the account?

I've never heard of such a thing. Clarification, please!

AndyA, yes that's right, except it wasn't just the AdSense account; it was the entire google account: gmail, adsense, anylitics, etc.

So it may not have anything to do with adsense at all.

A Google account can be temporarily disabled when Google detects abnormal activities on the account like a large number of bounced emails in a short period of time etc. Account locking seems to be mainly due to their Gmail spam protection algorithms, and has not much to do with AdSense.

That is what I think happened to me, I got a lot of undeliverable mail one day.

But it does have to do with AdSense if they lock you out of it.

Mine is running now. Get the verification number and it unlocks no problem.

I didn't realize that using an AdSense stats tools was not permitted. Firefox has an add-on that does that.

Firefox should remove that or put a warning up about it, since it's a violation of the terms.

AndyA, what makes you think that 3rd party stats tools are not permitted? At some point, in the past, ASA declared it to be ok. Maybe that's changed over time, I don't know, but I haven't heard anything.
