I'm noticing some strange behavior today. I'm getting unusually high CTR and really low eCPM today.

Normally I get around 15/20 clicks (0,80% CTR) per day with and eCPM of $1,70. And today I'm already at 25 clicks (1,35% CTR) and a eCPM of $0,33. Traffic hasn't change etc. (source of traffic hasn't change either).

Just checked the adsense report again and it looks like that same thing happened 8 days ago. My PPC went from ~$0,20 to $0,02. It was back to normal the next day. What's happening?

90% of they clicks were only worth $0,01!
Looked at my server log and didn't find anything suspicious. Problem is that 90% of my traffic comes from the US and I'm in France, so I don't know which ads are showing over there.

Use the Adsense Preview Tool (Google it).

Thanks for the tip Lame_Wolf!

Still can't figure out what's happening though (probably never will I guess)

I get around 4000pagesviews/day & today I only made $1! (I make $8/day) on average.

nps SnoopyLoo. I hope it helps. It's not perfect, but that tool is about the only thing that will help. Good luck.

Don't forget you can block certain niches now in the ARC.

Adsense is mind boggling sometimes. How can my average PPC go from $0,20 to $0,01 for no apparent reason!?

Hi Johnie,

What do you mean by this?

Edit:just did a search on "Smart Pricing" (didn't know what it was)

WTH, but what doesn't make sense is that it happened for one day last week then everything wzent back up to "normal". Now it seems like I'm stuck at $0,01. Nice..

Perhaps the earlier smart price was a test. Or maybe you were balancing on some trigger. Nobody can tell you for sure, but it sure does sound like smartpricing to me.

Are your traffic sources reputable (i.e. organic, quality links etc.)? Are you not 'tricking' your visitors into clicking your ads?

You need be 100% sure you are delivering quality traffic to the advertiser.

Hi,
Yes my traffic sources are 50% from Google search and the rest from reputable sites like Engadget/Gizmodo/Techmeme who frequently link to my blog etc (I have a blog dedicated to smartphones). That's why it doesn't make sense to me.

Sad :(

I have been checking in for the last few days to see if anyone would write an "adsense nosedive" post. Ever since last week, my numbers have taken yet ANOTHER huge nosedive. Same traffic, etc. I am testing other sources of ad income b/c google just gets lower and lower. I know some others personally who are having the same problem. Seems to have started last week towards the middle/end of the week. I am taking some of the ads out to see if others will pay better.

Wow, if you can count your clicks and see the prices then one of your problems is not enough traffic. Another likely problem is your traffic stinks (reasons/queries people have for visiting), another one is that your niche is lousy (jokes, celebrities, photos, free stuff, etc.). Those are typical reasons to account for CTR that is less than 1% and click values that drop to nothing.

People like to blame Google and hate to acknowledge the problem might be with their niche and/or site, but that's what is at issue. You have been riding a frail and dying horse. If you want to win a race you'll do better obtaining another horse [webmasterworld.com] rather than whipping the current one harder.

Best and good luck.

I may not be getting a whole lot of traffic ( Around 4000visits per/day according to Google Analytics and 4Kpage/ads impression according to Adsense report). But somebody will have to explain to me why my PPC went from $0,20 on average the past couple of months to 0,02 in the last 48hours!

Your average earning earning per click dropped 18 cents. While that's a large drop when expressed as a percentage, it's not a large drop in actual terms. It's a change of EPC of merely 18 cents. That happens all the time and there are many reasons for that, including an advertiser with a poor ad (text/product) that is offering a high bid but generating less clicks than others. Could be your traffic region changed. Could be the keywords people use to access your site changed. Check all those things.

It FEELS worse for you because you were earning so little to begin with. But in actual terms, a variance +/- of 18 cents is not outside of normal.

You also may want to consider seasonal variances. The months of .20 average epc may represent the exception of the good times, and the two cent earnings days are the exception of the bad months.

Best and good luck.

Hate to post a "mee too"...I am getting destroyed in the last 2 days. Yesterday eCPM and earnings were 40% of normal. Today it looks like it'll be even lower, so far about 30% of normal.
