My adsense earnings for sites based in the UK are truly horrible today. Is it just me?

I noticed somebody terrible ad targeting on some sites this morning - ads for 'incontinence pads' on a celebrity pop star site and ads for 'payday loans' on a very well established fashion site.

Anybody else doing even worse than normal?

Stephen.

Yes, earnings over the last week were about 60% of the next poorest week over the last few months. Couple of others reported similar here: [webmasterworld.com...]

Yesterday was down a lot further for me, but I might have influenced that just a little bit by removing the ads. I expect today to be especially poor, but I feel a lot better :-)))))

My best day ever yesterday. Okay, I only beat the previous best by 23c, but still a great day.

It's been a bad 3 weeks, but yesterday and today have been awful. I've not looked at the targetting yet, but I'm looking in to any possible causes now.

We are rapidly approaching the dreaded holiday season here in the US (Christmas decorations have been up for two weeks already!). If you don't have a site that people are going to use during the holiday period, I think you can expect a dropoff in advertising related to it as well as traffic. OT ads can start to appear when supply gets thin.

Earnings for my site are holding up OK but I expect next week (Thanksgiving week) to be poor.

I don't think it's that purplecape. At least not for everyone. Or at the very least I expect a big wooosh at this time of year and rarely see a big dive.

What I have noted is often times when others have complained on here about unusually bad earnings mine have been unusually high. This time it may be the other way around - the price you pay for being smug.

Things are up and down with adsense and there seems very little that can be done or figured out about why they fall out of love with us for weeks or months.

PS: I have often been in sync with HuskyPup. How are you finding it Mine Husk? Chilly?

Christmas decorations have been up for two weeks already!

They're setting up Christmas trees as we speak where I live - midwest USA.

Christmas season always brings a substantial drop in traffic for me and with the traffic go the earnings. Thanksgiving, then Christmas and then of course New Years. My customers aren't buying during this time, nor are they clicking. It happens every year so at least it's predictable. I don't generally see recovery start until about the second week in January. But it's a good recovery. The first 6 months of any year are always considerably better than the second 6. For me at least.

Had usually good earnings in the past month (I have some halloween related material), but this past monday was about 50% of my average. Got better yesterday and hopefully today, but that drop 2 days ago really surprised me. The CTR was really poor, to the point where I think there were targeting issues.

vord, I agree--AdSense is constantly changing, and I'm often as baffled by the numbers I see in my earnings as anyone. But over the long term things get more predictable. I've been in AdSense now for six years, and there are definitely times of year when my site does better, and times it does worse. But then there are other trends, such as the gradual decline in CTR over the past three years, and hiccups, and jumps, and who knows what.

My earnings have been noticeably down since late October, and this week has been even worse. Usually my earnings are the highest during this time of year, but this year, it seems like November will be the worst month ever.

I noticed last week that the ad targeting seemed to be totally off topic, and some other things like 336x280 units displaying only one small link ad at first, even though they were a bunch of other ads available when I clicked on the arrow to show more ads. Ad targeting seems to be at least a little better now, but my earnings are still down about 60%.

Funny you mention that single ad problem, I have seen a single small advert being displayed in a large rectangle just a few moments ago. After investigating, my targeting also seems to be off in some cases (Spanish hotels on a page about IIS servers). This all started in the last few days of Oct and has persisted since.
