Method used to improve EPC and CTR

I finally tried something that has seemed to work to improve CTR and EPC, and most importantly eCPM.

Several of you have suggested somewhat similar techniques.

The method is a bit easier on my site compared to a blog or single topic site since my website contains 100s of topics under a broad heading...

Anyway, I finally removed all ads from my lowest performing (but highly visited) pages. Instead of adsense I now have my own ads on the left, right, or both margins pointing to my less visited but highly profitable pages.

So now if a visitor leaves the site by clicking an ad they leave for a several dollar click rather than a 5 cent click.

A side note is that it is hard to get free visitors for the highly valuable pages since the competition is so steep and deep on the serps. This method gives me a leg up because I'm at least getting the visitor to the site and then giving them an easy opportunity to get to a topic that tons of people are competing for.

Another small benefit is that the 1000's visitors don't land on an adsense filled page - making some of the feel a little better.

Are many of you doing the same thing?

What percentage of your pages did these "low performing pages" represent?

15%... thanks. I wondered because we usually don't get that info and it sure makes a difference if we are talking about 15% versus say 50 - 60%.

Anyhow, I Hope the good news continues.

Did it also improve total earnings?
