Are you serious?

Ok, this one totally blows my mind.

I have a newer site that concerns a specialized niche of clothing.

Out of the 3 ads in my 728x90 the first one appearing is a blogspot blog with like 3 posts on it from back in 2005. The other two ads are right on target. The topic of the blog has nothing to do with the content of my site, however in the title portion of the AdSense ad, it DOES fit my niche. I of course did not click the link, I manually typed in the address that is showing on the ad, but again, I don't know why anyone would pay AdWords to go to a blogspot blog that is old, only has 3 comments on it and the topic is nothing similar to my niche.

There are also no AdSense ads on the blog, they are not selling anything, I see no reason for it.

I've never seen anything like this on any of my sites. Anyone else had anything similar happen?

The only thing I can think of:
They're testing 'something'
They're trying to download a 'nasty'

Someone is likely learning how to use Adwords.

They probably had ad Adwords voucher and don't have a business so thought they would use it for the blog.

I've seen some pretty funky use of Adwords over the years - what you are describing sounds remarkably similar to something I saw nearly a year ago. It was an arbitrage play - using Adwords to make low-cost Adsense placements that went straight to a blogger page.

Over the time I watched this particular advertiser the ads on the blogger pages went from Adsense to a another popular affiliate service.

So initially it was Adsense to Adsense arbitrage and changed to Adsense to affil. arbitrage.

It was the thinnest affiliate page I have ever seen and was a real eye-opener for me. I could not comprehend how Google would allow such a blatant thin affiliate to continue to advertise on their network. I tell you it blew my mind :)

Maybe you are seeing something similar?
