Why am I seeing image ads when I've selected text only?

I have specifically been choosing "text only" when creating code for the last 8 years. Yesterday at about 1:00am I was updating my site and saw a graphic/animated ad where my 300x250 text ads should have been.

The other strange thing is it didn't even load all the way so you couldn't actually see the ads. It was about a 300 x 100 size image.

How much revenue have I been losing on this type of ad?....I'm upset, I didn't want ANY of their graphic or animated ads showing! Is this happening to anyone else and how do I stop it?

A quick thing to check is your server side settings to make sure it's set correctly. The other thing we sometimes see when people switch it on and off is that it caches for a bit. So if you tweaked it.

I tried a few of our text oly sites and didn't see image ads, but it's a small sample.

What category of site do you have?

In my case a lot for the same reason.

Do you have an older version of a "text ad only" AdSense code which performed as expected?

Hi Ian - Yep, the code is older "text only" script. I didn't want to change it because when I added new code in the past the revenue from it seemed to tank.

It's been a while for me, but what are your thoughts of going through and updating the scripts for this vintage profitable site? :) Tammy

What settings should I be setting server side? I'm a little lost on what you mean... No switching on and off, it pretty much has been running itself for a while now :)

All I can personally attest to is when I resurrected olden day code - CTR went up.

The difference between then and now is the click target area has since been reduced, now CTR is very respectable BUT I no longer have inappropriate graphic dopey "Girlie Dating Ads" - as far as I know.

CTR is way up.

Suddenly though EPC is all over the shop.
