Transferring an Adsense account to a new owner.

Having a problem transferring an adsense account.

Hello,

We just purchased a company that had an existing Adsense account.

We had the seller transfer the account to us by changing the Publisher ID in the code to from his ID to ours.

Then, on the day of the transfer (March 5th), immediately upon replacing the Pub ID, that days CTR dropped from 1.94% to 0.82%.

Do you think something went wrong in the transfer? Or, does Google "reset" something when a new Pub I.D. is entered? I understand that CTR's fluctuate over the days/weeks, but to have an immediate drop like that makes me think something went wrong.

I would love any advice/thoughts.

That's fine and normal. It often happens when I buy a site. It evens out in a few weeks.

Did you look at the ads on the pages? We they less targeted than before? Not sure how the AdSense side "senses" content- whether it's just URI or URI/Pub ID combo. If the latter, it may have just been they normal "Whoa, this is all new content- better show lots of untargetted ads until I can determine the page's content" reaction by the AdSense bot.

This is normal. The same thing can happen when you do a total rebuild or make extensive changes in an existing site. AdSense basically does a "reset" and, all things being equal, eventually gets back to whatever normal is for that site.

Forgive the obvious but have you confirmed that you have changed the adsense code on EVERY page? The previous owner may have inserted the code manually in some places and with a script in others.

When dealing with a transferred site it's important to remove all traces of adsense first and then add your code when the site is confirmed clean, if you don't it's possible that you display ads from two accounts on some pages which is against adsense TOS.

Thanks for so much for the comments and sharing your expertise. It's nice to know this is somewhat normal.

As far as making sure all of the pages were transferred...we did verify that the previous owners account is not getting any impressions, so I'm assuming that's a good sign that everything was transferred appropriately. Also, we just the source code on some of the pages and they all looked good.

Anything else we could me missing? Thanks again!

actually the tos allow to have more than one adsense account on the same page: but the tos still insist that you can't have more than 3 ads on the same page.
