Hi all. A quick question on URL channels.

I have an adsense account that now has ads for multiple domains. Now, for all my ad/link units, I have them in custom channels, which i usually call something like:

domain - page - location

These would seem to be really effective at tracking ad performance, etc, as if I have two ads on a given page that I want to track, I may have the ads 'channelized' as follows:

top banner
> domain - page
> domain - page - top

inline links
> domain - page
> domain - page - links

Which enables me to see overall page performance, as well as more defined ad performance based on the channel I look at.

So, my question is regarding url channels... they seem kind of pointless to me, at leats in my application. I guess they could be used, say define one per domain so that I can easily see the overall adsense performance of a given domain, right?

Am I missing something useful about URL channels, and for that matter custom channels in relation to how I am using them?

Thanks for any pointers!

All the best,

paul

In my experience, URL channel is used for the tracking of multiple domains as following.

a.com
b.com
c.com
e.com
....
N.com

And then find the performance of a given domain on advance report.

Also, as the official document mentioned, URL channel is used for tracking different page in singe site.

For example:
example.com/page-a.html
example.com/page-b.html
....
example.com/page-n.html

I hope I haven't missing anything out!:)

I guess url channels are aimed at non-technical webmasters. If they can get the javascript installed correctly and displaying ads they are pretty happy. Url channels offer an easy way to track sites and folders without having to muck around with custom channels.

I use custom channels like you do and also set up a url channel for each domain. Makes it easy to run a report by domain.
