I guess the simple question is which sizes have the most inventory across the web. I was hoping IAB might have info on this but unable to find anywhere.
In particular I'm look for stats on 120x600 and 160x600 and which size advertisers target the most.
On the skyscrapers / towers
i see the 120 x 600 used more than the 160 x 600 and just a few 300 x 600
I think you really need to look at it from the other end. What sizes do the largest number of publishers allow. And if you disregard the large number of search results pages, such as Google, that serve the 160 x 600 size, then i think 120 x 600 is way more popular.
Most publishers see a bit better ctr on rectangles. but even so most publishers will stick with one or two sizes and if a network / advertiser don't have them, they won't work with them.
One little talked about fact i have found to be true, is with text ads (such as adwords) the domain name you use can half or double ctr results, all with the exact same ad copy other than the domain name.
