CTR = 0 but Earnings > 0

Consistent pattern of zero clicks reported but earnings are greater than 0.

Hello All,

I have be a site that has been underperforming for quite a while. In short, I get around 200 page views a day however almost no clicks take place (or to be more precise, on average, I get a single click on ~1k page views).

I’ve tried different ad sizes, played with color and positioning to no avail. The ads displayed are relevant and my assumption is that the ctr should be in at least 0.5% range. I have a similar site targeting slightly different topic and the CTR has consistently been > 1%. Anyhow, I’ll keep monitoring this and trying out different strategies – I do hope it’ll work. If anyone has any ideas regarding what other steps I may want to explore I’d appreciate your input here.

Also, there is one more thing that’s puzzling me. The site consistently generates a penny a day (on days when there are no clicks). I’ve pasted below what I see if I run a “yesterday” report for the URL channel at issue – as you can see, the CTR is 0 but eCPM and earnings are greater than zero. I have four additional URL channels that tend to get zero clicks as well but none of them displays this peculiar behaviour. Any suggestions on what may be happening here?

Best,

Vedran

Bok Vedrane!

CPM ads invading your ad space? I've been having the same experience for some channels recently (a couple of days or so).

I agree with radix, it's likely CPM ads. Check to see if you have any placement ads listed in your reports. Without a ton of traffic, CPM ads don't pay very well unless you cut your own deal with someone directly who wants to target your site visitors with ads.

AndyA - thanks / radix - hvala,

Yes, that might be it. I'll see if I can find something on CPM ads in the help section. Do you know if there is a quick way report on them.

Best, Vedran

In your reports, if you select the option to display the statistics by individual ads, you can ask for CPC and cpm results to be separated out.

- but the only option I see there is "Show data by targeting type - contextual or placement" - no mention of CPC or CPM ads

Just ran a report for last 30 days, only 'contextual' ads show up. i have ~10 days with 0 clicks and 1 cent in earnings (each). Now i am even more puzzled.

I think getting more unique visitors should be your goal right now.
