does adsense allow sites that offer game cheat codes?

how about sites that offer free downloads / links of
3rd party programs (bots/currency hack/item hack) for online games

if not, any alternative?

No it is not allowed.
The alternative is a real web site or a job.

Yes Adsense most definitely does allow game cheat code sites. Not sure what the other subjects you mention are exactly so I can't advise on that.

My son has a set of very successful game cheat code sites, and has for the past 5 years. All have Adsense on them. It doesn't earn as much as other markets for Adsense but it does earn. Many other game cheat sites have Adsense on them.

Interestingly at the moment, Tribal fusion are refusing game cheat code sites because the number of publishers is too high already. Gaming sites are an extremely competitive market. Only enter that market if you have something the big boys don't have.

This is kind of a gray area.

If your site is listing harmless cheat codes (like the Konami code [crunchgear.com]) we're generally okay with it.

The problem is that many sites with this kind of content also include things we don't allow. For instance, you can't infringe on anyone else's copyright. You also can't post ways to hack into a game and change things for yourself or other users.

So in other words, tread lightly.
