What success with it in terms of AdSense income?
I would estimate 100 hours working to built into my CMS the possibility to make a mobile version.
What revenues could I await for this investment?
It should be at last 5% of my regular AdSense income.
Mobile advertising could have lifted off IF the economy would have continued to prosper. Right now, advertisers seem to pull back to proven marketing methods, trying to avoid expensive experiments.
Just my € 0.02 (worth less and less every day).
I've build my own CMS with template features so for me it was easy to build a mobile version of my biggest earning domain. I buyd the .mobi domain.
At the moment i see only one advertiser that is selling his clicks for 3 cent. The CTR of this .mobi domain is arround 2 and 4% and my highest day-earning is 12 cent hiha
Traffic to my .mobi is growing slowly but i was very early so many .mobi startpages has made a link to mine. I believe in mobile internet, and it will become big!
See it as a service, and brand marketing to your users. In my bed read good content sites on my mobilephone.. and i like that.
In the Netherlands 2008 is the year for flat fee internet with unlimited traffic, so slowly anyone can get a phone with internet access. I see that google dont have good techniques yet to separate the 'normal' from the mobile sites but that is getting better slowly to.
Sorry for my english, and for my first post, Brett and all u users has done a good job! I still love this site! Bye from Amsterdam
I make a few hundred dollars per month with our mobile portal.
Is it special designed as a mobile portal, or just the mobil copy of a normal site?
When it's the copy of a normal site, how much makes the normal site to compare?
I just checked Google Analytics
About 1 from 1000 visitors with a screen size typicall for cell phones.
If no-one answers this question I suppose I'll need to update my mobile to the latest generation, that's the excuse I'll give to my other half!
Getting back to the original question though. As I understand it, in Japan, mobiles / PDAs are the preferred method for viewing internet pages (any comments?). If that's the truth, then current income opportunities in the West for .mobi domains may be small at the moment but for the future, the sky's the limit. And that was the way when the internet was first launched. Almost zero income, but the future potential was, as we now know, huge. Current income from .mobi sites may be a red herring. It's the future potential we need to be looking at.
I have this gut feeling that mobile phones / PDAs will be the future of the internet. Get in at the beginning and you will gain useful experience.
