Extremely bad. I thought I hit a low since Thursday, but today has the last three days beat. I'm still trying to figure out why the AdSense ads that show up on the Google Search are paying five times what the regular page ads are paying. I'm busy now looking for alternatives to AdSense.

I had the lowest day since about 2005 so you guys are not alone. Today is looking better though no click dumps to make up for yesterday. Value of my pages can't have halved overnight from the Thursday onwards lows (hopefully).

It is good motivation to get around to direct advertising. I had an email on Friday enquiring about advertising and have responded in a positive fashion. I'm in a strop with Goog so won't be using their ad manager, though the ad manager I was thinking of using seems to be down today.

I've also gotten the lowest result in the last 3 years. 2 days in a row for lowest result. What exactly happened down the plex?

Yesterday ended up higher than average for me. Hopefully whatever it was that happened has stopped happening at this end.

Been playing with an ad manager all afternoon. Not as easy as it looks all this direct ad serving, but should be worthwhile.

Lowest days in a long while for me... I never thought I would be back to the same figures of last year on the same date... it feels like a whole year of creating new content and increasing traffic for nothing. Hoping I'll bounce back soon...

Isn't it obvious yet that content and traffic has only so much effect on AdSense? You can struggle and fuss with your site and bring in more people, but Google and Advertisers will decide how much you make with Adsense. Is it not obvious that your traffic and your content is only a small part of the mix?

We are making the money, that we do make, at the whim of Advertisers and Google.

Hey, ArtistMike,

I know you're right. We are at their mercy. I'm looking into ad networks now. We do have a little more control over that.

I think there is a tipping point, a time when you blast through the barriers and ceilings, shatter the caps and are free of Google's tyranny. It requires a big-time recognition, getting mentioned on a very popular national network program could do it in a flash.

I have not reached that point, I may or may not ever. How well I'm currently doing under the Google regime has a great effect on my motivation to improve my site, so it will be difficult...

edited for spelling

I love that. Thank you.

I'm having one of the best months I've had in several years. I always used to hate it when people would say that. I'd report that my adsense earnings were tanking and some chump would pipe in with, "I'm seeing record earnings... whooo weee... too bad for you!" And I'd bite my tongue and move on.

It's the machine. Far reaching and all encompassing. When a minor spelling correction is made to a single word, 50,000 adsense accounts nosedive and 50,000 more reach new heights. Transpose 2 digits in one of the algos and millionaires are born overnight, or 1,000 adsenser's can't meet their mortgage payments.

You can't figure it out. It makes for good discussion and I like reading all the various theories because every now and then something comes up that I hadn't thought of before but that's all they are - theories. Good for entertainment but not much more.

Larry, Sergei... I've been a good boy. Can you link to my site from Google's home page?

What? Why are you laughing?
