Adding AdSense to Small Websites

Can it have a negative effect in the long-run?

I have several AdSense websites with a collective traffic of about 10k page impressions a day. I also have a number of very small websites/blogs, without AdSense on them, generating no more than 1000 page views a day. I've recently been fiddling with the idea to put AdSense code on these websites: why not get several hundreds extra bucks a year?

But then I recalled that I had heared somewhere that such a policy of placing AdSense on very small websites might actually hurt your earnings. Since AdSense is such an illogical and unpredictable thing, I thought it might be very probable.

What is your experience in this area? Are the couple hundred dollars or so worth the risk?

Thanks for your opinions

I do it, I don't think I've suffered from it. Suffered from other things, but not necessarily that. My larger sites (other than a current slow period) do pretty well; over all I'm up almost 100% over the past year and more than that over two years ago.

Depends on your content. It took my personal site several years to even get the first $100 (photo galleries don't work well with Adsense as yet.)

I have a couple of different sites attached to my main site, which is good for testing as I can change the layout around.

Netmeg, so you place AdSense even on your smallest websites, right?

Yep. As long as they have content, and as long as they have traffic, why not?

Even if they only get a few clicks a day?

If I make 3 cents today, that's three cents more than I had yesterday.

It depends upon your content. If it is purely content oriented I will add adsense from 1st day. If I'm trying to build a community using wiki / forum I will stay away from ads till I cross 5k unique a day. You know your audience better than others.

A few folks I know build their entire AdSense strategy around relatively small, highly-targeted niche sites. As long as the content is there it can be quite successful.
