Yesterday I decided to alter the layout of my site so that the content would be presented slightly differently than it was. The result? Highest earning day for July!

Congratulations, I'm sure we are all pleased to hear of your good fortune. But in order to make your post more useful to the rest of us could you elaborate some on "slightly differently?"

Thanks OnlyToday. It's still early days here with the design change=earnings up on my site, but from I can tell, making the content more compact has made the site "stickier" which means people are spending more time now on the site which in turn is showing an increase in clicks.

I made a change a few months ago, and the ad block quadrupled over night.
Though they did dip slightly over a few days but have still remained significantly higher. It's kinda mad really, how earnings can be effected so dramatically in such a small change.

Also try making the ad blocks bigger than you would normally. I was surprised to get such earnings from relatively few pages compared to my main site.

I usually find that any sort of change to layout reduces ad-blindness but it always comes back again after a while. I suppose that is the problem with having a high proportion of regular visitors.

What does "design more compact" mean?

Less space around the content (so that the eye goes from one to the next without as much interruption)

It will be interesting to see if smart pricing kicks in or not. Keep us posted!
