I do think, however, that video units with text-ad overlays fading in and out at the bottom of the video viewport are an excellent replacement for regular videos from YouTube which you would be happy to broadcast on your site anyway.
Video units is a separate product which allows AdSense publishers to add video content from YouTube partners to their sites in a customizable player. However, this product is not available to all AdSense publishers at this time.

Earning from video ads was normal, not higher or lower than regular or link units.
I expected my users to be attracted to the video ads, watch the movies, then hopefully click on the ads but that did not happen. They might have watched the movies (no way for me to find out, or at least I dont know how to) but i only got very few clicks on the video ads. My site is kind of boring and I thought by adding the videos will give my users something fun to see on the site. one thing that worried me was the size of the videos: even the smallest video unit is so huge that they make my site look so very horribly ugly....i tried changing the frame colors etc but obviously that didnt help...
one thing i want to add is that i was VERY impressed by how fast google found video content that actually match my boring site 100% Perfect! it toke them only a few weeks but when I noticed that for the first time, I was like "wow! this is why google is king!" the content of the site is very boring and i thought no one would want to make movies for a site like mine but hey i was obviously wrong! i am actually kind of happy about that...haha..i was actually watching the movies myself last night, it was fun (of course without clicking on any ads embedded in the videos)
I may want to add the video units back to my site later if they change the video sizes (i want smaller ones) or if I have new pages with layouts that actually visually fit well with those videos. Right now they are just taking too much space but making too little money.
I wonder if Google will allow us to feature the movies on our site, should we call that MFAV "made for adsense videos" site? if so, i will make some pages with the biggest video ad right on the very top of the page, haha!
Regarding your MFAV "made for adsense videos" request, it seems that the deal with Family Guy is just that.
blurblade, you mentioned that you were concerned about the size of the video players. I just wanted to let you know about our new 728x90 and 160x600 formats that will more easily fit into your site. These two new formats will feature five video thumbnails - when a user clicks on one of the thumbnails, a full sized video unit will appear, along with accompanying ads. To use the new formats, you'll need to create new video units by visiting your AdSense Setup tab.
I saw one lady actually created a video about nothing but trying to sell her own products (some books) - Whoah! Free advertisement on my site! it really is a very smart thing to do (for her). Many thanks to that smart lady for giving me that last push i needed to finally take action and remove all video ads right there, right then! video content like that not only add no value to any site as they should be able to, they dont help us create income, even worse, they can easily give the users an impression that we are being paid everytime the videos are being watched. God! no that's so not right! Even a tiny small publisher myself, I give that a huge No! No! I want my name clean (to help, can we also request to add one extra line saying "this site doesnt make money by you watching the videos, feel free to watch them all"?). I do feel sorry for removing videos by other folks who clearly did put much efforts and did such wonderful work, unfortunately there wasnt any other options...
Taking that idea from smart lady, I actually do want to suggest to make the videos a pay per view ad, either by making the entire video advertisements, or even better, show a short advertisement clip at the beginning and end of main video content, exactly like what CNN does, and just make them all pay per view videos for publishers! although there may be many things Google needs to consider to go to that direction....k, i am in no position to say anything further.
My last suggestion is to add, beside smaller sizes, more design choices to the frames, right now I personally think that the frame design stand out way too much, the metal like design fits better on games or graphically heavy sites. Something with simple lines and faded colors should blend much better with most sites i believe, again, something like CNN or NYTimes videos. I feel that those type frame designs are a lot more visually flexible and user friendly, for both the publishers and the site users.
I have yet to try out the banner size video ads as suggested above but as what I remember, ads like that do exists, perhaps slightly different in term of content, but they are not popular. A good thing about the youtube video ad is that, i personally feel, they have the potential to help publishers make their content richer without giving the users an impression that there are too many ads. banner video ads instead has a potential to make the site look too ad busy, not content rich. Will the new type of youtube video banner ad work better? why? I still have to check my account and see how they look like so it may be pointless to talk so much about that now...sorry
...alright, I have talked too much today. my apology. i shall stop here.
one thing that worried me was the size of the videos: even the smallest video unit is so huge that they make my site look so very horribly ugly....
Yes! I absolutely agree. I would love to add Adsense video units to my site and I have the perfect space above the fold where I usually place a medium rectangle (300x250) or a large rectangle (336x280) but the smallest rectangle player at the moment is far too big at 400x415px.
I just wanted to let you know about our new 728x90 and 160x600 formats that will more easily fit into your site.
Great news. Any chance of a 300x250 medium rectangle or a 336x280 large rectangle which does the same thing?
