Does Google even look at what they approve for Adsense?

How do sites like <movie and tv site link> and others get approved for Adsense? The site is so illegal I don't even know where to begin...and yet, I find this happening all the time. Google needs to set some standards.

No.

There is no other explanation for all the (shady) sites that carry Adsense ads. Some of them STILL advertise happily on Adwords.

They do look at what they approve. But after approval, the account owner can publish lots more sites without further approval.

They do seem approve many sites that are unsuitable, but they now seem to run algorithms regularly that automatically ban the bad ones.

At the moment there seems to be a surge of banned sites on the adsense help forums. The majority of them seem to come from the 3 countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India.

Certainly there seems to be a check made before sending out the first payment at the $100 level.

Well i edited out the site I was mentioning but it has an Alexa rank around 3000 so it's something Google would have to notice. The site is just one massive dump of illegal content.
