I am currently running a similar experiment and removed all my bad performing adblocks.
Now there is only one 300x350 image and text ad.
My CTR went down by 25 percent only, which isnt really much.
Here my question.
Is is normal that I get a very cheap cliks during the first few days.
I got SOME very good ones 50c and more, but most are 7 cents and less.
My averge cpc used to be 13 cents. ( talking about a few hundred clicks/day )
I also cleared my filter list at the same time to increase competition and there are currently over around 250 placement targeted ads. I emailed google and theiy said I should wait at least 2 or 3 weeks to see the first results, but the system will need several month to optimize the ads on my site.
However, from the experiance of those changed to ONE-AD-ONLY before.
How much did your ecpm fall at the beginning and when did you earn the same or more than before the change.
Thanx and regards to everybody.

Second, read the above again.
Third, I followed the "less is more" philosophy for a while but my fortunes with AdSense made a turn for the better when I started doing what AdSense suggested - and for months they had been suggesting I might add more ad units. I now have what some people might consider too many ads on a page and too many ads on a site.
Humbly speaking of course, I happen to think I do it tastefully with a non-obnoxious layout and color scheme(s). But as of right now, I like more ads better than fewer ads when I view my earnings reports.
