Adsense code in collapsable div tags?

I must be searching for the wrong terms because I'm sure this has been discussed before. If a webmaster wanted to delay display of ads for a few seconds after the page loads, is this again TOS? Essentially, just adjust the style.visible attribute of the div tag that contains the script tags.

I've seen sites that have used this technique with non adsense ads and admittedly, it was effective at getting me to notice the ad.

Anybody have good or bad experience with this technique?

I'm sure this is not OK. You cannot do anything which changes the way ads would display normally, nor can you do anything which draws attention to ads they wouldn't otherwise get normally.

If you think your intended behavior is Adsense-neutral, I would definitely ask Google before attempting to implement it.

Although it's not specifically prohibited, I think this is a gray area that could easily result in a ban. There are two sections of the Program Policies that might apply:

Site and Ad Behavior
"AdSense participants are not allowed to alter any portion of the code or change the behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads."

Ad Placement
"Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the ads."

Even though it doesn't say "you shall not delay the display of the ad by using a collapsible DIV" I personally wouldn't take a chance.

Of course, as the previous poster mentioned, you could ask AdSense tech support.

Although slightly different, I use style sheet properties to disable AdSense when making a hardcopy on a printer from pages on my sites. It is because clicking with a mouse on a piece of paper is very difficult you know ;)

I emailed AdSense support about this about one year ago and they had no problems with it. Because your situation is slightly different, my advice would be to send them an email. My experience is that you will have a reply within a day or so.

Almost certainly the answer would be no. Is there any point to doing so, other than to draw attention to the ads?

Confirmed by Adsense, this is a no, no. It brings "unnatural" attention to the ads.
