Newbie Asks: Am I Making Enough?

Are we doing enough to maximize our AdSense revenue?

Dear esteemed Webmaster World community:

We are brand-new to AdSense and have no idea what we're doing! We have the following numbers to report for the past seven days:

243,591 page impressions
413 clicks
$41.33 in earnings
page eCPM: $0.17

Are these numbers even in the ballpark? Should we be making more?

Your CTR is really low, just 0.17%. Imagine if it were 1.7%, your earnings would be $413.30. I'm guessing this is a forum? In any case, you should try different colors, ad formats, and positioning to get a higher CTR.

Have a friend who knows nothing about the site, visit the site and write down their first five impressions within the first two minutes. If they mention that it feels spammy or has too much in the way of advertising, in other words, your site is overloading on advertising, then people maybe developing a blindness to your ads.

Try and blend them in, and sometimes less is more.

If you are a discussion forum, good luck. It's tough to do those with AS - you might be better off finding "forum sponsors" that will advertise x-amount of days for a set fee/payment to you.

Try looking at your site from different computers, OSes, and locations, to make sure the advertising is relevant as well. Block ads/sites that are not relevant to you.
