I would think that this is a breach in TOS for two reasons. Ad code cannot be modified. Also any thing deemed as encouraging clicks on adverts - which I guess adsense would deem this as being. I could be wrong of course. If in doubt best to ask adsense - then you will know for sure. :)

I agree with Trannack - this could get you into deep problems with the Adsense folks. I would not implement this.

I am not modifying adsense code. what I am trying to do is call javascript function onmouseover and mouseout. the function will change all the style of that particular div used to.

While I can probably see how this could be implemented without code modification, in situations where you're on the verge of drawing any attention to the ads, undue or otherwise, you've simply got to do what trannack said... ask Google.

Nobody here can defend your account if you happen to follow our advice, however, if you get the OK from Google there's no possible danger.

Yes, there's no question what Google was going to say about that. BTW, I can see being able to change a border surrounding the iframe, but I doubt there's any way to change the background color of the ads without digging deep into the code and making significant direct changes.

You're allowed to change the background colour of the ads anyway. When you generate the code for the ad you can change the colour used for background and border which have the same effect.

jomaxx you are right. but the way I would implement is put the ads in a div and then manipulate the div border without touching ad code. same effect as digg banner, but I would have use button ad in order to have one ad only.

Because of their traffic Digg would be an Adsense Premium Publisher. The Premium Publishers get more alternative styles and sizes of ad units as well as the following perks.

* Flexible ad formats
* Advanced filtering
* Optimization assistance
* Additional monetization options
* Enhanced technical support

Although last I heard about it you need 20 million pageview/month or 5 million searches/month to qualify so it's out of the reach of most websites.
