I made my AdSense text the same color as my page text

OK, I am SURE this is OK, but if the text on my web page is Treb, I went into my AdSense code & made it Treb too . . . that IS okay, RIGHT?

google_color_bg = "CC3300"; I was FORCED to add that color anyway, because it wasn't a color in the Google palette.

Insofar as I am aware you can apply any colour through the pallette simply by adding the correct hexadecimal key.

Or has that changed? I must go and look...

Just checked it out, it still says:

Colours

Choose from one of our pre-designed colour palettes or create your own palette

OK Ann - Now, would AdSense consider my sliding on past the color choices as a crime? In essence, as previously mentioned, I created my pages in FrontPage & created my own custom background colors so in essence, I went into the AdSense code and had to add that custom color into the _bg, _link, etc. parts of the code so as to "blend" those ads into those respective pages.

If you produce the exact same code that the control panel in AdSense Maintenance does, I doubt there would be any way for them to notice. But it would have to be exact; and since you have to generate it in order to check it - heck, you might as well generate it in the control panel and paste it.

That said - I sure wish we could control font and even more importantly font SIZE. I don't use AdSense in some places because the font's too big to use nicely on the site.

Well . . .I emailed a guy I know who's making about $97 a day EVERY day via 8 or 9 sites (could be more!) . . .he told me he changes color and makes tweaks all the time & not to be too worried as if they do have any objections, I might get a warning . . . not an outright ban. But he said not to be concerned with it. This coming from a guy I note who is creating little icons to place next to ad text, etc. He does quite well and I hate to bother him. I like bothering you guys. At least I appreciate hearing all the different viewpoints.

as Optirex says & notes, I guess it IS acceptable to create your own palette so I'm not gonna worry about it

I believe Google has a golden rule

If you set out to cheat or mislead either Google, the advertisers or the surfers then you risk a ban.

If not, you're probably OK but may receive a warning.

Changing the Adsense code so the it appears to be just another link to some part of your site, would be a clear breach of the golden rule and risks a ban.

Changing the colours to match your site colour scheme should be ok.

Not sure what you mean by that pengi?

do you mean removing the 'Ads by Goooooogle' part?

but I do remember adsense being quite happy for you to blend the text in with your site design and quite right too ...

Dinrock,

Do you have any idea how much money you can make with AdSense without manipulating the code?

If you did you wouldn't touch it.

You're throwing away dollars to earn pennies.

gabby: Prior to manipulating mu code, I was making 40 cents a day....sometimes 80 cents....then days of 54 cents etc. etc. As soon as I "blended" my ads I had days where I made $7, $3.86, $4 and then $6.42 ..... so, whether I'm throwing money away, I don't know!

I really wouldn't worry about it. I think Google works on the 'Spirit of the Law', rather than the word. At the end of the day, it's like any other business. They don't mind too much what you do, as long as you're not doing something to bring the system into disrepute. I'm pretty sure you can get any hex colour combination from the control panel, so putting it in manually isn't any different - as long as you get the code exactly as it would be if auto-generated.

It makes sense that they would say "Don't alter the code", as they don't want lots of people changing and breaking the adsense code, then complaining to adsense support that it doesn't work. It's just one less thing to worry about at the end of the day. If you're going to alter it, do so, but just make sure it's exactly as it would have been in you auto-generated it. Having said that, I'm not really sure why you'd need to change it...

Softpedia seem to mess with the code to blend quite effectively..
they use an external .js and seem to have some interesting addons..

google_ad_client = "pub-2364887827571271";
google_hints = "windows, download, free software downloads, free, software, buy software, download software, windows software, free download, linux, linux software, linux software download, linux distributions, linux distributions download, mac, mac software, pda, gsm, mobile, drivers, games, screenshot, shareware, trial, software review, handheld, handhelds, handheld software, handheld software download";
google_ad_output = 'js';
google_max_num_ads = '6';
google_feedback = "on";
google_ad_type = "text";
google_color_line = "ff0000";
google_ad_channel ="8632324990";

Do you have to be premium to use this kind of targetting?

Yo Lobo:
I think you hit the nail on the head. Not gonna worry 'bout it any further on my end. I didn't ALTER any code, nor am I actually doing anything directly different TO the code of AdSense. It's just that I was FORCED to go inside of it and add to it directly. I went to some other AdSense code on other sites and looked behind the scenes and what I did looks no different. Like I said . . . it's just that I was FORCED into doing it because I skipped over picking my color palette in the initial AdSense set up. I wish we could show URLs here to give an idea but that's OK/ I'll just keep feelin' like an anonymous bot in an anonymnous world . . .
